Back to tanks after this I'm afraid. Probably. The Great Auk wrote:That's some excellent work and I really like the door and the paddle wheels, General Rocket.
Maybe we should start calling you Admiral Rocket instead?

Now for the latest round of butchery.
Port holes opened with the aid of a drillbit. I won't bother glazing them.
The paddle housing, before.
The paddle housing, after.
Joining the hull halves.
Strange to think there was a motorised, that is floating, version of this kit.
Thats all for now. If you have been, thanks for reading.

...one great thing about a fantasy build like this is: only the builder knows what will happen next!
I don´t have a clue yet what you´re up to with this, so this is really exciting

Interesting stuff, General, although I don't really have a clue what you are doing - I don't suppose you do?
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

I'm flummoxed as to where this one is going as well, but it seems to be coming along swimmingly!

Re: General Rockets double D.N.F.
The Lindberg offering plods along. The fit of the hull was not the worst, but will need tidying up.
The hull, though needed clamping to keep it together.
Careful clamping and support didn't prevent.........
The rear deck is a better fit. Just needs levelling off and tidying up.
The Monitor dawdles along by comparison. Having altered the deck profile the new deck didnt want stick or accept too much filler.
Patience and persistance eventully paid off, and she sits very tidy.
The secondary armament. Donated by a Masterbox mk2 female tank. On the larger full size original they where 152mm.
Main armament on the original was twin 12inch guns. Being a smaller vessel, that would be too much. So a single mounting turret, using a modified 88 sourced from the spares box, looks far more in keeping.
How they will be postioned when the superstructure starts to take shape.
Comments welcome.

Good work on those mountings for the monitor's smaller guns.

On glueing the hull together the flat of the stern doesn't quite line up.
After the hull has been filled and filed.
With the front wall of the super structure in place the lack of flatness in the deck becomes more obvious.
The highly technical remedy.
Prior to surgery on the steps, they needed deflashing.
The top deck has as yet not been fitted, unrelated surgery needed.
Thats how the paddle steamer stands at the moment.
The Monitor, a lot of hard work and little to show for it.
Comments and critcism welcome.

Re: General Rockets double D.N.F.
The finished main gun.
My appologies for the lack of updates while building the turret. It was made by glueing concenentric disks together, then wrapping a piece of thin plastic card around the smaller discs to form a cylinder. A slot was then cut into the front face for the gun to stick through. The turret was a little too narrow, so more card (0.040) was wrapped around a pen to make it curl, and so, better conform to the shape of the turret. A quick look at the picture below will show how this was done.
The original intention was to use the superstructure from the Robert E. Lee and modify it to suit the new form. This unfortunately proved to be impractical. So I am having to change this one from Krap Kit build to scratch build using Krap Kit components.
The paddle steamer continues as normal.
The side walls of the superstructure have been cut from plastic card.
The deck of the paddle steamer following my brilliant attempt at correcting the unlevel nature of the deck.
Fixing the upper deck to the superstructure. Glueing section by section and pulling and pushing the wall as need be, allowed me to make a much better fit than would be expected.
The overhang of the upper deck. this along with a little filling and filing was all the correction that was required.
A test fit of the funnel................... sort of!
Thats the progress so far, feel free to comment.
