I've reached the exterior painting stage of my Airfix FW189 and have run into a problem. The painting diagrams are useless! The colour demarcations are next to impossible. I have tried to copy and lighten them on my computer but to no avail. Any ideas.

Re: Airfix Painting Diagrams
Is it the splinter camo on the wings you can't make out?
Luftwaffe splinter camo followed the exact same pattern on the same types of aircraft, with minor placement differences eg; All bombers had the same pattern, all fighters had the same patterns, just how it aligned on the wings and fuselage varied slightly
afaik only the 'random' spray on the sides of 109 G versions was actually done to a set pattern, on all other types its was genuinely random
Find another camo illustration on-line for another kit make of the same L/w type and copy that
It will probably be more accurate than the old Airfix anyway

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: Airfix Painting Diagrams
Try a search for 'FW-189' here:
https://www.super-hobby.com/;
(My goto site for sprue shots and instruction sheets)
The search pulls up quite a range of kits by MPM, ICM, etc. - with pictures of the instructions in most of them.
After a quick look at a couple of them, the kit by 'Lion Roar' (on ski U/C) looks to have a reasonably usable splinter camo diagram - but I haven't been through all of them, so there might be one that's even better if you have a dig round on that site.

Re: Airfix Painting Diagrams
I had a look at the instructions as posted on the Airfix Tribute Forum
https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/airfixt ... hp?t=31868;
I see what you mean.
The pattern is the regular two-greens pattern for L/w bombers.
You can copy the pattern from a He111, Ju87, Ju88, Do.17, Do.217, etcetera

Re: Airfix Painting Diagrams
although it's for a Hungarian example, there's a reasonable colour profile of a Fw-189 in German camo here:

Third one down.

Re: Airfix Painting Diagrams
I think you would be better with this Ju87 pattern which is closer to the regulation scheme and that on the Airfix kit instructions
