Model shop in Swindon gone!

Recommendations of all those increasingly rare LMS's in a town near you, so the rest of us can find them and marvel! Also, the places near you where blokes approach you, furtively clutching the latest SAMI and smelling of resin.

Model shop in Swindon gone!

Post by TeeELL »

Some years ago there were 2 model shops in Swindon at either end of town, the one at the ‘top end of town’ closed a few years back when the owner retired. Yesterday I popped into Swindon to visit ‘Spot-On’ models to see what they had and buy some bits and pieces. To my surprise the shop was no more, the interior was in the process of being gutted.
There is a Hobbycraft but it is limited in stock.

Antics are nearby(ish) both shop and warehouse in Stroud, about 45 mins distant.

Unfortunately a sign of the times, and something I'm very conscious of contributing towards as living in a remote location the Internet is my most realistic (and environmentally efficient) means of purchasing kits and paint. If we go to Lincoln, I will visit the one remaining model shop there if it is open and I try to buy something from the little craft shop in Mablethorpe from time to time (but as I've actually got more kits already than she stocks it's difficult!) but that's about all I can do to help the bricks and mortar outlets. It's a real problem, and I really don't know what the answer is other than a shop having an Internet presence as well (the shop in Poole being a great example).
Best wishes

Jim

I still have Antics Jim, probably ‘closer’ to me than Lincoln is to you Jim. If I get the chance, I plan to visit the shop in Lincoln (bottom of Steep?).

That's the one; always a good selection of kits and paints, plus some scenic stuff and railway items if you are so inclined :-D
For those of you not familiar with Lincoln, 'Steep' is called that for a very obvious reason
Best wishes
