Special Hobby Tempest II in 1/48th

Post by Chuck E »

This is another super release from Special Hobby and it shows its Eduard connection. Plenty of nice decal schemes and some super detail work. I added a tiny 3D printed instrument panel, just to actually try one out. The amount if internal detail is fantastic. Lots of nice resin too. Photo etch is down to the 3D seat belts. I will add some more photos later.

I already have the Eduard Tempest V, so they will look nice together.

I wish they'd do a "Weekend Edition" type release without all the extra resin. Same with their 1/32 kit.

Revell have released the 1/32 Tempest Mk.V re-boxed from Special Hobby without any resin or PE, so perhaps the Mk.II will follow soon...
Best wishes

Exactly - we can only hope! The Special Edition/Hi-Tech is just too expensive for my tastes!

The kit is going together great. The only change that I had to make was if you were using the resin. You need to cut 2 pieces of 3 mm off the plastic cowl to fill in the gaps in the engine insert. Apart from that, all plain sailing. Unbelievable number of small and alternate MkV parts. You can't build a MKV from this kit, but a few of the sprues are included. Eduard already have the MkV out.

More photos later.

If anyone is contemplating buying one of these, please don't do what I did and get a 3D instrument panel. Once the gunsight and cockpit assembly is in place, it's almost impossible to see. You would need a strong LED light. The two alternative parts in the kit are ample.

I see that the Eduard one is out now. No resin, loads of Etched parts and around £6 cheaper.

That's the one I'll get - frankly, I don't need all that resin, especially the half engine.

Lovely finish.
I am just starting the 1/32 version and I will be very pleased if it looks as good as yours.

The 1/32nd version is a lovely build, and the only real problem I had with it was the apparent gap between the fuselage and the nose cowling; which of course is supposed to be there so actually nothing to worry about anyway!
