1/350 anchor chain
I stared a century thinking this will never change
As I hesitated, time rushed onwards without me
Too scared to break the spell, too small to take a fall
But the absolute luck is, love is in our hearts!

Re: 1/350 anchor chain
I stopped buying chain from scale model resources as they charge an absolute fortune per metre (something akin to £5 and more) and until you have bought it you have no real idea what it actually looks like, and generally it is brassy in colour, and needs to be blackened anyway
Nowadays I scour charity shops and look at necklaces and the jewellery and regularly come back with another length of chain to put in my "box of bits" and then when I need chain, get everything out and trial what I have on the deck, and eventually I usually find something that to my eye looks good enough and use that, and then proceed to paint what I need whatever appropriate colour is necessary.

Re: 1/350 anchor chain
I dont mind paying a few quid for the right chain, already spent a fortune on extras for this kit so want it to look right and tbh its very unlikely I'd find a suitable jewellery chain. ive spent ages trying to find a basic chain in charity shops to finish off my hms victory with no luck so farchrism wrote:I stopped buying chain from scale model resources as they charge an absolute fortune per metre (something akin to £5 and more) and until you have bought it you have no real idea what it actually looks like, and generally it is brassy in colour, and needs to be blackened anyway

Re: 1/350 anchor chain
PE chain tends to be flat and alternating links need to be bent - I might use it on 1/700 ships.
I quit worrying about bars in the links, although I have seen them.
I do not look for scale chain but for the smallest LPI (links per inch) brass chain and have found 42 LPI and 30 LPI to be very useful. I do not go by scale but by size of the ship - after all 1/350 chain for a battleship is going to be much bigger than 1/350 chain for a Flower corvette.
My source for chain is Model Expo, here in the US.

Re: 1/350 anchor chain
my lad got a resin 3d printer for christmas off his gf so after scouring something called 'thingiverse' where he can download the files for printing stuff I found a stud link chain and he will print it off for me in resin as far as I'm aware he can change the scale of these files so I've asked for 13 links to the inch...hopefully that will look about right because the only other stud link chain I found was in 14 carat gold.
