Elizabeth 2

Post by general rocket »

The Severn Valley Railway has repainted "Taw Valley" in purple in honour of the Queens platinum Jubilee.
So here are few pictures of her in the new temporary livery.

Also "Sir Nigel Gresley" in wartime black. Unfortunately, this is the only angle I could get.

And in the car park, a B.S.A. A10 (I think) and a Honda CX500C.

I can't remember the last time I saw a CX.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

I'm sorry, but that livery is just plain wrong...
Love the CX though 👍
Best wishes

That loco just needs some Hello Kitty decals to finish it off

Do like the wartime black on the A4.

......And the purple Taw valley try and be postive as its had the ''old school' button counters having dicky fits like they did when preserved lines use to have 'Thomas the tank engine weekends! While not my cup of tea it has generated a lot of intrest and more importantly income for the SVR.

Plus, I already have loads of pictures of Taw Valley so any new livery is welcome, whether I like it or not.

First of all, let me openly declare, I am NOT, by any stretch, a railway enthusiast and I know absolutely nothing about classic railway engines or rolling stock, so please excuse my ignorance. But I have to ask, why are there so strong objections here about the engine's new jubilee celebratory colours?
Is it an anti-royal thing regarding Her Maj's remarkable reign? I know not everyone is a fan. Or is it something to do with railway enthusiasts' desire for originality and preservation of locomotives in correct original colours and schemes?

Feel free to educate me!

Nothing against Her Maj, it's just the wrong colour for a locomotive - it's a coaching stock colour :ha:

Wot he says ^^^
I'm by no means a purist in anything I do or am interested in, but that liberty is just wrong to my eye.
Others of course will have their own opinions 😁

Many rail enthusiasts are traditionalists and won't tolerate change. You would not believe the outcry when some engines have been painted in other railway companies colours - occasionally done as an April Fool joke. So to have an engine painted in a totally fictitious colour is a step too far for some. I really like that colour and the West Countries are my favourite steam loco (I am a Southern man born and bred after all) but I am assuming it will be painted back into "proper" colours for next season or else I may well kick off as well!

In 1984 the loco City Of Truro of the Great Western Railway was sent to the SVR for an overhaul. As an April Fool joke they painted one side only in LNWR lined black livery and photographed it before beginning the complete strip down and overhaul. The photos were published in the railway press - the joke DID NOT go down well in some circles and generated many lines of complaint and outrage!!

Taw Valley is only wearing this livery till the end of the year, so the purests will be able to breathe a sigh of relief.
As Beany mentioned the City of Truro being painted in black, the storm of protest was delicious.
