Recommendations needed for Laser Printer White Decal Paper

Post by beany »

Help please chaps - I've just ordered a Laser Printer and need recommendations for White Decal Paper as some I have seen look distinctly "creamy" rather than pure white and I want to be doing aircraft marking and such like so it is important that the white is just that! Also, I'll probably be getting some clear decal paper too so if anyone has a favourite brand to recommend let me know. Thanks.

I am not at hime just now but will check for you on Monday. I am very happy with the products I have purchased - the white is certainly that. Sorry I can’t tell you right now but RIAT and its associated traffic lies between SWMBOs (where I am) and my place!

Thank you Tony - I look forward to what you have to tell me! Contrary to Amazon's promises, the printer hasn't been delivered yet.

Hi Beany,
I am just about to print some transfers which reminded me that I hadn’t replied with the details of paper I use.
I have used 2 types:
Crafty Computer Paper (I’ve only the inkjet type atm so can’t give you the laser product number).

Or

Mr Decal Paper MDPLASWDPWHT.

I use BMF. I've been pretty happy with it.

As a general decal printing question - do you have to use a laser printer or can you use an inkjet?

You can use an inkjet, though the resulting printing may not be particularly opaque, so the decals may look a bit faded -- not black so much as colours, especially lighter ones -- and if they go on a darker background, they may be difficult to pick out! As an example, I did some decals for a lot of StarFleet Battles game miniatures, including Federation, Gorn and Andromedan ships. The Fed names and registry numbers were fine, but the nacelle stripes, etc., looked more a reddish magenta when I applied them over a grey hull colour; I had to paint the (basically green) Gorn hull with white triangles for the orange Gorn symbols to show properly; and the Andromedan yellow, blue and green emblems looked downright drab when applied over a dark green hull -- since they were supposedly from another galaxy, I declared that they saw a different colour spectrum to humans and left it at that!

Stuart,
I have both types although I much prefer laser as it is less bother. Inkjet decals need ‘fixing’ to prevent the colours running and I think the paper has a slightly tacky finish (could be my imagination though!)
