Pass anything on the road but a gas station.

Post by general rocket »

This is the Hasegawa Jaguar Xjs T. W. R. Sports.
This is the 6 litre V12 with body kit. Built O. O. B. other than tweaking and fettling here and there. The only problem being my fault, one of those perfectly timed accidents. I found a partially used rattle can of car paint that had just enough paint in it. Probably, I didn't shake the can enough. I was spraying with a nice smooth motion, when someone walking past said hello, I looked around and replied, just as the can started to splutter. I did the sensible thing, and allowed the damaged paint to cure, so that the paint could be more easily reworked. The body was easy to reworked, but the bonnet (hood) less so, as is noticeable in the photograph. Unfortunately I had to buy another van for just a couple of passes with the can.

The quote in the title is from a T.V. Programme from the early 80s called the "Greatest American Hero" in which the following exchange took place whilst driving in the heroes Beetle.
F.B.I. Agent. "Why don't you get a decent car".
Hero. "I'd love a Jaguar".
Heroes girlfriend "What's a Jaguar?"
F.B.I. Agent. "It's a British sports car. It'll pass anything on the road but a gas station".
I still want one.
There is a rear wing for the boot lid, however, I am really not happy about the fit, so I left it off.

Comment and criticism welcome.

Very nice General, always an elegant looking car to me but a little like Marmite as it does seem to divide opinion!
Shame about the paint issues though...
Best wishes

A controversial design when it first appeared but it has grown on me over time and you've built a splendid replica there.

Neat, though a shame about the paint. What scale is it?

BTW, first glance at your thread title, my brain read "Pass anything on the road except gas"......

Still looks cool after all these years. Probably looks better without the spoiler.

And I'm assuming the figure in the last photo is who passed by and said hello which then distracted you from spraying .... rightfully so :)

Nice one, General, although the paint shenanigans must have been somewhat annoying. I rather like the lines of the XJ-S, which I think have dated well.

The scale 1/24.
No Jratz, it wasn't the lady represented by the figure. HE wasn't that pretty.
The paint problem are easily dealt with if you have the sense to not meddle until it is safe to do so. The bonnet was the problem because I couldn't get wet n dry into the creases conveniently with our damaging more paint or plastic.
Other wise, thanks all for your kind comments.
