New tooling anson. I learnt this from Twitter

I still have my 1080s Airfix anson acting as loft insulation. Not sure what to do with it now.

I know there's a new Afx one in 1/48. Is there a replacement for the 1/72 one too?

Well, the new mould is 1/48, though of course there is a possibilty of them scaling it down in the future, as they've now done with the Meteor.

That's a bit of a misconception Paul. Due to the moulding process the design of 1/72 & 1/48 kits of any subject will change to allow more detail in the larger scale and to simplify design of the 72nd example. They will share basic data, but the mould design changes significantly.

 I didn't mean a part-for-part, rivet-for-rivet scale down, but present it in a smaller scale - as they are doing with the Meteor, Blenheim, Buccaneer, etc, etc, etc for example.......

I wish Airfix did that more often. I'm still waiting for a new tool 1/72 Sea Vixen.

A modern "new tool" 1/72 Anson is desperately needed.

I build in both 1/48th and 1/72nd and for this subject I would probably prefer the larger scale. That said, I agree that a new 1/72nd scale kit of this aircraft is long overdue from Airfix.

I'm awaiting two of the new Ansons, as there are a number of versions available in the kit.

The old artwork depicted an early version with a sloped windscreen. The kit was actually the later steeper windscreen. The early version looks a lot neater, so I'll have to have two of them. They also offer different engine cowls.

Hopefully a new tool will appear. They could initially just replace the fuselage and those dreadful glazed units on the smaller scale kits.
So many models, so little time.

The old 1/72 Anso has very incorrect wings too.

I do like the look of the new 1/48th Anson but what I'd really like to see is a later version. The aircraft gave sterling service with the RAF up to 1968 but you never see the later C or T variants in kit form; it's always the WW2 versions.

Lots of spare components in the box, including a complete roof with no turret. Two engine cowl styles are included.

Just a note: It shows a plug for the cockpit floor, so you don't have to make a two seat trainer. However, it doesn't mention changing the rudder pedal extension tubes. The kit is very detailed and has been a joy to build, so far.

One note about this kit: I bought several direct from Airfix/Hornby and discovered that all of them have a flaw in the late style windshield part. It’s a roughly semicircular mould line or cold shunt in the rear third of the overhead section of that part. It’s quite noticeable and I noted that the part shown in Brett Green’s Hyperscale review also has it. I’ve included photos of some of the flawed parts I have. I contacted Airfix but apparently they don’t have enough spares to send replacements at the moment.

My suggestion if you have the kit and aren’t going to build it right away is to check the clear parts so you can ask for a replacement part if yours has the flaw.

Even the original 1/72 Anson had a flaw on the top turret. A sort of circle around the top.
