Re: Pyro Santa María
A great thread to follow, and an inspiring build
Best wishes

A true inspiration
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

It's great to see this finished, Tim and what a truly beautiful build, that was really interesting to follow.

Thank you all for your kind comments!
The scale disconnect does still bother me a bit. I initially thought to display the ships separately to mask the size discrepancies, but the little models seemed to get lost on my bookshelves.
So the fleet is back together again!

Re: Pyro Santa María
Been a real education watching this build of such a clunky old kit, sticking the Santa Maria on a wooden block is a nice way of getting around the discrepancy in its size compared to Nina and Pinta.

These little kits are basic but fun. Pyro Plastics is long gone, but Lindberg now owns the molds and they reissue them from time to time.

To be honest, I thought Lindberg had gone out of business years ago.Tim Reynaga wrote: ↑December 18th, 2022, 6:40 pm

Re: Pyro Santa María
Actually, you are right. As with most of the "old school" model companies, Lindberg too has since ceased to exist, having been bought out in 2013 by Round2 LLC which characterizes itself as "an innovative collectibles company" marketing vintage kits from AMT, MPC, Hawk, Lindberg, and several other old model companies under their old logos.Muttzley wrote: ↑December 19th, 2022, 12:13 pmTo be honest, I thought Lindberg had gone out of business years ago.Tim Reynaga wrote: ↑December 18th, 2022, 6:40 pm

So, confusingly, these 1950s-60s Columbus' ships models, originally issued by Pyro, then made by Life-Like, and later by Lindberg, are now being produced by Round2 but marketed under the now-defunct Lindberg logo as "New Lindberg"!
Whatever the label, I’m just glad they are still around!
Re: Pyro Santa María
Same as, some of the older kits are of subjects that are rarely modelled by other manufacturers.
Quite liked the Pyro/Lifelike ships, they built up pretty nicely, and were a bit bigger than the Airfix series one ships.
Be nice if another manufacturer bought out a range of ships similar to them but with modern levels of detail.
IIRC Lifelike also had a range of field guns in their catalogue, wonder what happened to those moulds...
