Polish Spitfire Mk.1a

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Polish Spitfire Mk.1a

Post by Old_Tonto »

This is one of my completions from the recent 'What Might Have Been' Group Build. Poland ordered Spitfires from the British government in 1939 and the first aircraft (L1066) was in transit when Poland fell. It was diverted to Turkey and became their first Spitfire.

This is the Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Mk.1 new tool with decals from the spares box.

I built it as I think it would have been delivered, direct from the production line - hence the RAF camouflage. I only left the IFF aerial off as I am not sure we would have exported that technology.

Hope you like it.

That is a sweet looking interpretation. Just scored myself one of these and looking forward to the build.

Just watch out for the canopy fit. It is very tight and demands some fettling.

Nice Spit! I built this kit (well the Mk. II actually, but similar) in more traditional RAF markings - your version is so much more fun!

Graphically pleasing Spit with Polish markings.
