Tamiya 1/35 Hanomag Sdkfz 251/1

Post by Battletweety »

This kit is part of a diorama I am doing. The kit is a pretty basic offering from Tamiya and could do with an update to modern kit standards. Its a run of the mill German halftrack so I haven't done anything fancy with it. Its OOB and painted with a touch of pigments. I used Tamiya German Grey XF-63 which I think is too dark. So apologies upfront, its not up to my usual standards, but I just wanted to get it done.

It looks good enough to me BT and I think the German grey looks ok as well. It is a cheap kit so you can't expect too much, in fact I've been after one for a while but it is so cheap that Hobbycraft have never got any in stock.

The grey looks fine to me - but then I know nothing about German armour colours

Very nice job, BT, I always use XF-63 for early war grey German vehicles but I'm not sure quite how accurate it is though. This is one of those classic Tamiya kits that I would like to revisit at some point.

I like that a lot BT, and certainly looking at it on my phone screen the grey looks good to me 👍
Best wishes

Nice work on the Hanomag. I have one waiting to be built, but I haven´t decided on the colour scheme yet. A cheap excuse on my part for being slightly complacent.

It looks great! I use the same paint, it still is lighter than the Revell German Grey, which is nearly black. I like the old Tamiya kits, they have a reasonable price and a good paint work covers the not existing details.

Tend to see it pretty often on Ebay at pretty low prices, snaps together pretty nicely as well.
Built one of these alongside a Revell version, (the radio carrying version), and the Revell was an exercise in annoyance!

(P.S. think I used Revell Pz grey on mine, it looked about the same shade as your Tamiya paint does, maybe a rivet counter would argue against it though)
