RIAT 2023

Post by TeeELL »

Living just 5 miles from RAF Fairford and/or being in Lechlade for the weekend means rushing around to spot the aircraft. Today it hasn’t stopped raining so it looks like nothing much is happening, well I’ve heard nothing!

The BBMF have already announced they won't be flying at RIAT today or tomorrow due to the weather forecast 😕
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Just watching a live stream and there isn't much going on at all. Poor spectators - all that money spent, time taken to get there, the anticipation...and the Great British Weather intervenes.....

Looks like it will continue to rain through Saturday as well. There might be a break in the weather this evening.

The radar suggest that you are right, drying up from about 18:30ish...
I remember the year the whole thing got cancelled as the (back then off-site grass) car parks were flooded and turned into quagmires....a shame for all the spectators and exhibitors for certain, but a massive hit for the charities supported by RIAT 😔
Best wishes

I was at ‘that’ RIAT! Iirc it was the one the Queen attended and everyone in their finery got well and truly muddied. I remember the whole place was one immense puddle of running water. Still, it did make them review the car parking.

The first ‘something’ has just flown over but the acoustics at SWMBO’s in Lechlade are just as challenging. I rushed into the back garden, but should have gone out the front!
