YCNHTM Spitfires

Post by Stuart »

Commenting on Martin's Tempest post earlier, I started to thing about that UAMF staple, 'You can never have too many Spitfires'. Is that true though, can you? Since I started modelling back in 2010, I've realised that my current Spitfire count is 18...

1/72
1. Airfix NT mk.I early (with two blade prop)
2. Airfix NT mk.I
3. Airfix NT mk.I (Aldi Special)
4. Bagged BTK Blue Plastic Airfix mk.I (converted to a mk.II using a 3D-kits conversion)
5. Airfix NT mk.I (converted to a PR mk.I with a Pavla set)
6. Revell clipped wing mk.V
7. Airfix mk.V
8. Airfix mk.IX
9. SH PR mk.X (the pink one)
10. Matchbox mk. XVIe
11. Airfix mk.XIX
12. Airfix mk.22 (converted mk.24 with rockets)
13. Airfix mk.24
14. PM Models mk.V Floatplane

1/48
1. Airfix mk.Va
2. Airfix mk.XII
3. Airfix mk.XVie
4. Eduard mk.XVIe

That's not including a couple that I started, but never got that far into. I also have at least two more in the stash!

So how many Spitfires have you made, and how many is too many??? :-D

Cheers!

I built a Spitfire in my youth, I built a Seafire a few years ago. I have a 1/24 Spitfire Vb kit - which I was given.

So for me, yes you can. I'm more than happy to be the exception that proves the rule.

Lol! Fair enough James.

The funny thing is, I've never intended to build that many, it's just how it's worked out - and I don't know why really, as the Spitfire is far from beingf my favourite aircraft.

I dare not even hazard a guess as to the number i have in the stash, or built. Suffice it to say I have Spitfires and Seafires of all marks, almost all makes, and all scales. I reckon that I could fill two 8 x 4 tables easily. This is what happens when you have been building them for 65 years. Unfortunately, I have lost around 4 of the original BT K kits. Only one wing remains in the spares box. Hurricanes are in 2nd place, but there a lot less versions of them.

I am still waiting for some Spitfires to add to the collection, namely those recently advertised 1/144th B of B sets.

I seem to remember SWEET mentioning a 1/144th MK Ia a few years back. Nothing yet. This would have gone well with my Hurricane collection.

Is it the Beacon Models Spitfire in 1/144 you are waiting for? It is on their website and it is a wonderful model. My dog fight set is in the post.

The 1/72 Beacon Models dispersal hut arrived last week so a diorama with an Airfix Spitfire is on the work bench this winter.

So do I. And I don't build 1/48 aircraft either! We should have a 1/48 Spitfire GB next year!
