Vauxhall D Type (1/72 Roden)
Of the first three parts I cut from the sprue two broke! This kit is, erm, delicate. Most of the iffy parts were on the lower chassis and got a bit of stiffening with superglue, though still not enough to prevent occasional breakages. The body halves proved quite tricky to wrap around the interior - it would have been easier to have fitted the seats after putting the body together rather than following the instructions here - ahh, hindsight. The headlights are serious 'pingers' with remarkable range once they shoot out of the tweezers - I had to have a break in searching for one, then after a cuppa it magically appeared exactly where I had been searching before! Obviously the genius loci has a sense of humour in my current home.
Although it is a fiddly kit and fragile even when completed I really like the way it looks. Painted with acrylics and enamels, with Klear (Pledge) used to buff up the leather and brass. Another old Matchbox base used for some photos.

Very nice work. The brass and leather I think are especially well done.
Would ya like to learn to fly? Would ya? Would you like to see me try?

Albeit fragile it does look in scale which is hard for such a tiny model. Very well handled

Absolutely first class job! Looks amazing.
It is a hellishly fragile kit. I built it after the ambulance version and thought it would be simpler but it actually turned out to be a far more difficult build. I avoid touching it because something inevitably breaks off.

Thanks for the comments folks. I'm quite pleased with this one if only because it hasn't fallen apart like a clown car so far.
Cheers VV, I have the ambulance to do as well so good to know it's not so weedy.VickersVandal wrote: ↑December 8th, 2023, 12:04 pm It is a hellishly fragile kit. I agree with the comments on the brass and leather. Very realistic. I like the ability to have the roof up or down too and the corporal stood at the side. Nice job.

Nice looking kit, with those early cars though they are bound to have those more exposed axles and components that make them vulnerable in braille scale. I’ve got a similar car in Diecast form I think would make a good scratch build project.

Re: Vauxhall D Type (1/72 Roden)
Thanks again everyone for commenting! The leather seats are nicely moulded and it's an easy finish to achieve with a dark wash or two over a brown base coat, followed by a layer of thinned down Klear. When dry just buff up with a soft brush. Neat Klear makes the leather look too glossy I think, but works well on metallic colours to bring up a shine - again buffing up helps.

A superb bit of modelling, now go and lie down in a darkened room to recover.

Another challenging sounding kit mastered by you, Ben and what a really great result, which is nicely enhanced with the MB base (Krupp Protze kit I think for MB base spotters) and figure.

Thanks General, I've just done a couple of super easy builds for a rest!general rocket wrote: ↑December 9th, 2023, 9:02 am A superb bit of modelling, now go and lie down in a darkened room to recover.
Cheers Shaun, it is indeed the Krupp Protze base - I seem to have ended up with several of them somehow. The figure is from an Emhar set I think.
