Airfix, 1/72, Luftwaffe, Hawker Typhoon 1b, Benghazi November 1942

Post by X12A »

At some point I became the proud owner of the Airfix Typhoon Starter Set, now to say this is basic would be a colossus understatement but after rediscovering it in the stash I decided it would make a suitable candidate for a Wrong Trousers project.

It is based on an FW 190A-4/Trop that was found on Benghazi Airfield in November 1942. The aircraft had previously belonged to Erprobungskommando 19, a unit formed in July 1942 to evaluate the suitability of Bf 109’s and FW 190’s as fighter-bombers in tropical conditions, the unit disbanded a couple of months later.

Strangely enough, I didn’t have a German type No. 1 so this became White 2 - the unit was manned by 2 instructor pilots and 6 other pilots coming from JG 27 and JG 53, so chances are they had more than one FW 190. Well, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!

Paints, as ever, are Hataka and AK brushed on, decals are a mixture of Airfix, Hannants and Fantasy Print Shop.

Thanks for looking and apologies if I’ve ruined your Fathers Day!

J

I always had a thing for POW aircraft. Of course I like Typhoons a lot too but seeing one cross dressing in a German uniform puts it over the top. Bravo

That made me smile - if you like cross-dressing aircraft, there's a whole flock of them here https://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=201&t=22262

Looks really great but I'd rather see Courtney Act wearing a Luftwaffe Uniform 😽

Thanks Uhrmacher, haven't got Courtney Act but I do have a picture of the lovely Helga from 'Allo, 'Allo - not sure if it aired in Germany so you may have no idea who I'm talking about!

I seem to have missed this first time round, X12, but what a great "wrong trousers" build. I can't recall ever seeing a Typhoon in the other team's colours but they suit it rather well!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Work is the curse of the modelling classes!

Thanks Shaun, I do have the 'Car Door' version in the stash which comes with either desert decals or those for a captured European Theatre Typhoon - decisions, decisions!
