1/76 M3 Grant / Airfix A01317

Post by KellerModeller »

This is the 2003 re-issue of the Airfix M3 Grant that I have build around 2008, placed on the Matchbox desert diorama from the Wespe kit.
Maybe I would do some things differently today, but I still think it is somehow presentable :)

I like to carve old kits into something roughly aircraft/tank shaped...

That does look very nice indeed, and I approve of the reused base.

Looks really good and nice to see the MB base reused

Great build and even greater presentation.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Thank you all! I thought it would be appropriate to start here with pictures of Airfix models :-D

Very nicely done! I haven't seen an unaltered Airfix grant for a long while.
The past, present, and future walked into a bar. It was tense.

Very nice model and base and refreshing not to see a figure standing on his own personal paving slab!

With "unaltered" you are probably referring to the turret, right? I remember reading somewhere that it's much too small and too flat, but that was after finishing it :-D
The turret size didn't seem suspicious to me as the main gun is one level below..
:)

This would incredibly trigger my inner "Mr. Monk" and is therefore out of question

Indeed, the Airfix turret is hopeless and frequently replaced, but that doesn't detract from a finely finished and presented model. Airfix did a pretty good job on the body of the tank - no idea how they arrived at that turret though.

That is a really great looking build of this classic Airfix kit and the MB base sets it off nicely.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.
