Re: Airfix Spitfire PR XIX 1/72 Now building!

Post by AndrewR »

Moving swiftly on...

Not too much going on with the Spitfire this evening. I've painted the exhausts and the in-flight wheels, so I'm ready to install them. Still to do are the propeller and canopy. If I'm on child minding duties tomorrow evening, then I could do the decals at the kitchen table.

Image

This is a better picture, so you can see a much clearer representation of my homegrown PRU Blue. Maybe I can call it TRU Blue. :ha:

Getting there, although I keep putting bits of the kit down and then not being able to find them again!

cheers

Looking good Andrew. How is the prop coming along?

Brews - how are you getting on with this kit?

That just HAS to be a hazard of a prolonged build! ;-)

Has anyone else noticed just how quiet Brews is these days? :ha:

Back at work this week so less time for the kit. Excuses, excuses eh!

Paint job is done. Next up a couple of coats of Klear will be applied to make this ready for decals.

Back to the hospital with number 2 son tomorrow but an earlier appointment this time so with any luck I'll make more progress in the afternoon. As long as number 2 is on good form obviously. Priorities and all that!

Sign of disorganization ! This build is actually going quickly for me. A short building session tonight as lots of other stuff was on. The exhausts are in place. The wheels are in place. The tail wheel doors are in place :)

The pitot tube and aerial will go on after the decals.

The blades are glued in the spinner, and I've given it a coat of primer.

No pictures tonight, unfortunately. More tomorrow.
I had a bit of a CBK windfall at the LHS. See the "stash" thread.

Cheers

Narayan, your Spit is looking good. I really need to get a stand like that. Will order one when I get back.

It's a Tamiya paint stand Sissel. Very useful.

Yeah I know, have seen many use it. I know Relish Models has it for £16,10.
I think it will be very useful for car spraying.

You get two stands in the set. One is purpose built for spraying car bodyshells, and comes with a wire frame which sits inside the bodyshell.

No activity on the Spitfire tonight. Too tired...

Decals have been applied and a coat of Klear to set them. One or two coats of Matt Cote are all that remain now.

A bit of masking on the prop for the yellow tips. The spinner on this one is "silver" or in this case either VA Aluminium or Steel. Depending on which bottle I pick up first!

Image

The other stuff is for the Gladiator build. I may not get the painting done though, I am on child minding duties while Katie goes to the drug store to get medicine for Graham. He's in bed with a very bad cold today. Masking and things I can do at the kitchen table, but I wouldn't be able to hear the boys calling if I was in the basement, particularly with the airbrush compressor on (it's pretty quiet, but not that quiet). I'll try and sneak down to the basement tomorrow morning to get the painting done. Considering we started on the 10th Sept., I'm actually doing quite well here. It usually takes me about three weeks to finish a single engined fighter in 1/72 scale!

cheers

Progress is being made on both of these remaining Spits, which can only be a good thing. Yours can't be far off finished now then Narayan? Three weeks is very fast by my standards Andrew, three months would be considered good in my spare room lab and that's without any child minding duties to worry about. The one thing I truly excel at is wasting my free time!
