After much debate I've gone for a USN version of the MkIV Wildcat

Re: Toby's Wildcat
Nice choice, iirc it was originally intended to have an electric spin a prop inside the fuselage, which might explain its rather portly dimensions. It goes together well with little if any need for filler.

I've got that one and the spin-a-prop to put in, one of these days ...

Re: Toby's Wildcat
Just got the kit out to have a check over and a couple of bits seem to be missing. The antenna being the major one.

Hmm. I've just found a Frog Black Widow hiding in the stash. Might give it a go after this and the Classic Jets GB.

Toby,
The Wildcat's such a cool 'little' plane (Little? Compare the wing area with a Spitfire).
Should be a fun build. I'll watch with interest.
regards,
Martin

Looking good. I too have one of these in the stash so I'll be watching with interest. I'm planning an FAA one.
Whats that IP sheet?

Found it by chance on eBay. Forgot I had it. Not a decal though. It's card that has to be stuck onto a plastic backing.Sir T wrote:Looking good. I too have one of these in the stash so I'll be watching with interest. I'm planning an FAA one.

Re: Toby's Wildcat
ah ok - I use a paper IP sheet that I found on the 3d-kits website for most of mine, I downloaded the sheet and then coped the image so that I can print about 30 on one sheet. Generally I juast stick it in the cockpit I suppose you could back it with plastic. I also tend to photocopy IP decals I find in kits for the same reason.TobyC wrote:Found it by chance on eBay. Re: Toby's Wildcat
Cockpit finished.
Fuselage joined up and then disaster struck as I managed to crack the canopy trying to expand it to make it flush.
I have some canopy scratch repairer that may make it look a bit better but I think it might be all over

Shame about the canopy. I hope you can do something to make it less noticeable.

This morning I had a look around my stash and found a HobbyBoss kit that has two canopy options so all is well at Chez Toby

Floppy wings need a novel approach to aligning. I hope this works and I've got the balance just right
