Bluesteels Baltimore ***FINISHED***

Post by bluesteel »

Not decided which scheme yet but possible the Coastal Command type scheme that was used for anti-shipping Ops in the Med. i think I have the appropriate Xtradecal Mediterranean Twins sheet around somewhere.

Pictures to follow later.

Cool is that the white with EDSG/DSG scheme?
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Yes, that's the one. I think it looks quite smart in that scheme.

I fully agree it's a great looking scheme.

Just found my Baltimore kit and laid out sprues for photo tonight. My stash speadsheet said I had 3 bagged but unboxed Baltimores picked up at £3 each from Telford a few years ago. Turns out the sellers labelling was wrong, as after opening them 2 turned out to be Marylands! One was a Baltimore though, whew!

Sprue shot:

This will be a build straight out of the box as FROG intended. the only two slight changes will be using a
different camo scheme and decal set and I'll use Krystal Klear for the side windows. Other than that it'll
be a vanilla build. But I'll have to have extreme self control not to add any extra interior detail...

Tidying up the parts this morning. Pilots painted. I found a pair of wheel-halves are badly misaligned and need some work.
Also two large raised ejector marks were on each tailplane and needed a lot of sanding flush.

Looking good, Julian!

I keep trying to find an 'affordable'* one on e-bay as I like the Baltimore a lot. No joy yet, though.

Martin

Yes, I'm also quite surprised how much Frog and even Frogpawn Baltimores are going for now. I think the best bet for a cheap one is in the bagged boxes at Model Shows, at least that's where I got mine

Fuselage is a good fit and now sealed, and will need very little filler if any. I'm pleased with myself
that I managed to stay 'as FROG intended' and added no extras what so ever to the interior.

Making good progress, Julian. I can't wait to see this with paint on (I have the same xtradecals sheet as you and was eyeing up the white Balt as well).

PS what's the difference between the different marks of Balt? Mk IIIA according to the sheet, but what's a IV and V then?

regards,

Martin

I think the big differences between marks are the engine fit and the type of upper turret fitment/armament.
