Seriously nice looking.

Fred,
That result looks really sharp, if you'll forgive the pun.
I hate using masking tape for brush painted finishes because I always end up with raised ridges where the paint has built up along the edges, and these show up under the decals. If you have the same issue, the only thing I've found that helps is using micromesh polishing sheets carefully to knock the highlights off the edges. Its nerve-wracking attacking one's newly finished paint job with anything, but it does work.
regards,
Martin

Great paint job. Is it airbrushed?

No, all hand brushed.
Martin; I do get ridges and I use well worn 2000 grade w&d to reduce them. I do have micromesh too and keep forgetting I have it.

I rubbed the paint ridges down with 12000 grade micromesh. Of course this took paint off the tops of the rivets too. So a round of touching in. Then some gloss varnish went on for the decals.
I've sorted decals from my files so I wont have to print any after all. I may actually start to get some decals on this evening.

Just out of curiosity Fred, do you use acrylics or enamels?

Both.
The top colours on this are Model Master RLM colours which are enamel. The under was Humbrol 65 enamel first then a second coat of 65 arcylic.
I mix my paints on models. Whichever suits my purpose.

Re: Fred's Dornier 17E
I had probs doing the canopy framing. Its ended up being bits of painted tape, painted decal strip and hand painting. Its no great but it'll have to do.
So, unless I've forgotten anything this is done. Depending on which history you read 3Z+FR was the first German aeroplane or first German bomber to be shot down at the start of WW2 [Some histories say the first was a Ju87B]. Certainly 3Z+FR was subject to German propaganda because I can find at least two different camouflage schemes for it. One is similar to mine, another has the grey and green transposed, which was one of the official schemes too.
Dornier Do17E, 3Z + FR, KG153, Fall Weiss, September 1st 1939
I lack a KG153 or 77 badge. If I ever get one I'll apply it to this.

Cracking looking model Fred. I bet it would look good next to one of the new tool -17Zs. It could certainly stand up to it .
BTW, I was under the impression that the first German aircraft shot down in WW2 was a Dornier 18 flying boat.
