VV's Chinese Katiushka **Finished**

Post by VickersVandal »

I'll be building the ICM 1/72 Tupolev SB 2M-100 Katiushka in Chinese Nationalist markings as part of my 1930s CNAF theme. My lovely better half, who is normally NOT keen to add to my stash, bought me this as a Birthday gift (after some heavy, heavy hints...) :-D

I won't have sprue shots for a bit due to technology issues, which may dog the progress shots of the build too (sorry!). I am buying a new laptop but can't get it til late Jan due to purchasing it through work. Til then I will soldier on with the dodgy obsolete one.....

DaVVe.

Great choice VV. Never seen one of these built before but I have flown them in Warthunder. Great planes. Looking forward to seeing it in Chinese markings.

That's an interesting break down of parts for the wing to fuselage section VV I hope it doesn't give you any hassles during the build. Whats the Chinese colour scheme like? I'd have been really drawn to that Republican Spanish option.

Yeah, I meant to say something about that. It is very odd. From reviews I've read, it doesn't seem to pose problems. Fingers crossed....

The Chinese scheme is a mottled green over natural metal. I don't airbrush, so that will pose quite a challenge. I'm still figuring out how I will do it.

Perhaps some small pieces of sponge, lightly coated with paint and dabbed on ?

Yeah, I was thinking along those lines. Probably the most workable option.

So, it's Jan 1, time to make a start:

Hmmm....the interior sub assemblies are a bit on the tricky side. Make sure to do a lot of dry fitting if you're making one of these!

Some progress.

The weird assembly that TomW mentioned has indeed turned out to be a pain in the Wahooti Fandango, as the nasty seam gaps and misalignments attest to :???:

Filler ahoy!

A bit of Floyd seems fitting.

Currently spraying it in Tamiya rattle can silver/aluminium. Regretting not putting more effort into sanding back the loads of filler it needed.

Turns out, the best way to do the camo was to stipple it on with a brush. Slow work....
