Revell-vallejo model air help needed!!

Post by OllieSmith »

Hi guys, I'm in need of advice for a cross reference between revell paints and Vallejo model air. Iv built a few revell kits and previously cross referenced the paint schemes with the equivalent airfix kits to work out the correct equivalents or for Luftwaffe revell give the rlm colours so easy peasy there. I have a revell 1/48 Lockheed Ventura pv-1 that I would like to build but having issues with matching for Vallejo model air colours as I'm not a fan of the revell paints. The airfix versions have cammo schemes and the revell kit has a totally different scheme so I'm at a dead end!!
Any advice/recommendations would be of great help,

Ollie

If you have an iPhone download the app iModelKit it lists the paints and equivalents by other manufactures and has a virtual mix function where you can mix colours to try and match the colour you are after.

I use it a lot and find it useful.

List the Revell colours you are after on here and I will see what iModelKit comes up with. I cant guarantee it will work but its worth a try

I think you might be out of luck it looks like it's only OS based, here is a link to their website http://www.id6.ch/id6_WebSite_en/iModelKit.html

There is the andriod based 'Hobby Color Converter' that I find quite useful, it gives a number of popular paint
ranges(Tamiya, Revell, Humbrol, Testors, Gunze, Vallejo & Citadel aka Games workshop) and includes
equivalents across multiple paints where appropriate.

The colours needed are FS37880 (Slightly off-white) , FS25042 (Flat Sea Blue) & FS35164 (Intermediate Blue).

For the off-white I'd use Vellejo 132 (Aged White)
Best equivalent for Flat Sea Blue is Vallejo 91 (Signal Blue) FS25042 vs FS25044.
Intermediate Blue is Vallejo 113 (US Intermediate Blue)

Cheers guys, found the android app :)
Thanks Ian, would those colours be for the Ventura with the octopus around the mid gun turret?

I always think that any Naval a/c that has an octopus around the mid gun turret has probably been flying too low

That's correct, Ollie (in fact for any 1942 onwards USN aircraft).

Hi!
Here is very fine colour converter. FS,RAL, Vallejo and Revell, Pactra, Model Master and many more. The Ultimate Model Paint Conversion Chart
I can't launch this converter "live", but download version (.pdf) is ok. Checked for Win7, XP and Linux ;)
