I'm impressed. And I have used the "puddle" technique several times before and it works. Decals will appear bubbled for a bit but smooth out tight.

Jeff,

How long does it take to smooth out? It has been an hour and I still have bubbles.

One hour should be plenty. Maybe your puddle was a little deep. I brushed it on like a Micro Soft product and it was smooth out within 20-30 minutes.

Edit. I have had success with many different brand names of decals also.

Yep, they finally settled down. Flat coat is on. Prop was sprayed black, but things didn't work out well, so some remedial action will be necessary. However, a walk downtown is next on the agenda.

At 6pm Seattle time Monday evening, I'm calling this one done.

I'm glad I finished, but I'm kind of disappointed in it. Mostly that my canopy frames are awful. I guess I'll watch dknight's videos in the thread and figure out how to do it right. It really is my Achilles heal and saps my enjoyment of the hobby.

That being said, I'm happy that I was actually able to finish a model in two days...my first for the year. I'm pretty happy with my shade of pink as well. To celebrate I'm having a steak and a beer and listening to Seattle's most famous musical export...another James...

Thanks for following along and all the encouragement. This was an interesting exercise.

Jim

P.S.: I do know that the PSP base is way out of scale! :ha:

1st, congrats on the finish. 2nd Love the color. 3rd, obviously you don't remember my A6M5 and my canopy issues, and that one wasn't a blitz.

Now, go finish another model. Way to go Jim.

Nice one, Jim!

For canopy framing, try decal stripes, or cutting Tamiya tape masks.

Stonking finish and a real trip down memory lane with the excellent tunes of my chequered youth! Excellent and unusual build.

Great job Jim! Agree with Paul, painted decal strips can work very well. I recommend cutting the strips then painting them so as not to chip the paint when cutting. Let's see a black Hurricane now!
