Re: Stuart's Cold War Build Thread
A bit more work done on the Etendard - I've blended a little bit of darker grey into a second coat of the base colour - I have to say I'm enjoying seeing where this technique is taking me.
However I've decided to take a step back and attend to some of the bad seams on the model - when I first built it I hadn't intended to put it on display but now it's going to be I'm not happy with the finish.
Anyway it'll be nice to have a different type of French Aircraft for a change.
Cheers
Stuart

Yes, I like that effect, Stuart. Thanks for pioneering it.

It's looking pretty good so far Stu. The finish makes me think of airbrush pre-shading.

Thanks Gents :-)
That's the effect I was after Darryl.
Once I've sorted the seams out and re-painted, it'll be interesting to see what the dark grey comes out like.

Re: Stuart's Cold War Build Thread
Just ordered some decals for the SU-27 and Mig-27 - Belarus and Kazakhstan - Both should be the correct time period - The Flanker scheme is Grey/Green.
I also purchased a PE Cockpit set and pitot for it - The Flogger already has a resin pit.
Cheers

Thanks Darryl - the Mig-27 is a nice kit - it's the one I started in the Mig GB.Dazzled wrote:Sir T wrote:Just ordered some decals for the SU-27 and Mig-27 - Belarus and Kazakhstan - Both should be the correct time period - The Flanker scheme is Grey/Green.

However I'm really looking forward to building the Flanker - thanks for suggesting it as it's not something I'd build normally.

Re: Stuart's Cold War Build Thread
Just thought I'd a some pictures of my progress (or lack of!) on the Etendard...
Sorry that they aren't the best pics in the world but they at least show how much sanding and filling I've had to do to get the seams up to par - now all I have to restore all the raised detail removed by the sanding...
Can't say if I'm massively impressed with the kit thus far - it's certainly a 3 footer!
Cheers

It's certainly making you work for it Stu. Personally I'd rescribe rather than try to replace raised detail.

Yeah it's been a trial - I redo my missing raised detail by scribing!Dazzled wrote:It's certainly making you work for it Stu. Personally I'd rescribe rather than try to replace raised detail.

Re: Stuart's Cold War Build Thread
It's great to see some progress on the SuE Stu. I've been there once or twice restoring raised detail on older kits using stretched sprue, mainly as an attempt to keep the classic appearance of the model. It can be a painfully difficult and tedious chore but because I'm halfway certifiable I'll no doubt put myself through it again at some point!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Yeah it can be fun - not. The scribing in missing bits works to an extent but it can look a bit odd.ShaunW wrote:It's great to see some progress on the SuE Stu. Apparently you can get raised panel line decals - I'll have to try one someday.
...
In other news the Etendard is coming along. The canopy is test fitted here but the fit is bloody awful!
But you what - asides from all the issues I'm rather enjoying this kit.
Cheers
