That could be easily mistaken for a 1/35 scale model from the photographs. The painting and additional details are extremely good. On a small base this is going to be a real winner.

Good evening all. Here are some pictures from my last build. I built the 1/72 Trumpeter T-80BV in Russian markings. It's not my favorite looking Russian tank, but I had fun building it. This endeavor was more to do with trying to do a vignette base than the kit itself and I had this kit sitting on the shelf for a while now (amongst a growing number of kits). It was quite simple in construction so I used it.

Some thoughts and mods I did to the kit:

- I like to use aftermarket metal barrels but no need here. The plastic barrel is excellent and has the spine on the top which the metal barrel does not. Main gun bag is basic so I tried to detail with Apoxie Sculpt. I added the link thing from the gun to the light beside it. Very small and fiddly detail but it worked out ok. Due to the thinness of the plastic I used CA glue here. The machine gun barrel was drilled out. Good detail here.

- I did not like the fuel drum holder on the back. They have a simplified design and have solid bottom all the way up to half of the barrel. I removed the drums and only holders left.
Image

- Turret bustle is thick and needed thinning. I added some junk in the bustle made out of various items such as Apoxie Sclupt tarps and duffle bag, steel rods and plastic boxes.
Image

- There were no handles on the bottom of the skirts. These were made with guitar wire.
Image

- One thing to watch out for is the angle of the smoke dischargers. Installed mine too low an angle as there is no real locators for them as a result they did not aim out of reactive armor.
Image

- Overall the fit a fun kit to build. Now onto the painting.

I wanted to do a simple single colour paint scheme.

I then went to work on a little base. Something simple as this is my second try at this. Watched a bunch of Uncle Nightshift videos to Psych myself up to do it. Definitely didn't like the look of it in the begining but I think it turned out OK and I just had to press through.

I wanted to try to make a protective case for it so I bought some acrylic sheet and gave it a go. I found that I could cut the acrylic sheet with the table saw that initially work badly. It chipped the sheet and it was unusable. I think the problem was I was cutting it at the wrong time of year here in Canada. It was too cold and that made the acrylic chip. I warmed up the sheets and kept it warm until just before I cut it and it worked out better. Here is the final result.

Thanks for looking. Cheers,
Paul

Love it. Nice touch with the clear case over it to keep dust off and prying fingers. I am always curious with how much hardware appears on the outside of Russian tanks, not that it appears to have helped them much in the Ukraine war.

Very nice. I like the light dusting and the subtle colour variations on the front armour blocks.

That is a great piece of work, looks good on the base, it certainly adds to the model.

That is a seriously good looking T-80, Paul with some great additional details and very nicely enhanced with the display base and case.
