Re: Seafire 17
At last I have found a problem with the kit, but surprisingly it's not the kit but the decals
The two red stripes on the wings are slightly out of register and have a very slight White edge, to sort it I have masked it and given a quick blow over with red.

Jeez. If I tried that the masking would rip up the decals with it! Or had you overcoated them beforehand? Anyway, great rescue.

Re: Seafire 17
I had given the decals a coat of Tamiya gloss clear before attempting the masking, I think the trick that did it, was using thinned paint and using low pressure and several fine coats so that the tape only needed to be rubbed down lightly.dwomby wrote:Jeez. You can blame the UAMF for that, my skills have only got to this level by following what others have do on this forum, if it was not for the support and advice from all the members I would have given up the hobby years ago. My builds four years ago had seam lines and no weathering, it's just down to watching how others do things and not being afraid to try new techniques and not getting upset when things don't work, just learn from your mistakes.Kitaholic wrote:Some stunning work going on here. Re: Seafire 17
Looking good.
I got this kit Yesterday it was on Offer at a LMS I popped into. Someone was reducing their stash and they were selling it OBO.
It's very nice. I sprayed a bit of interior green around while I had some in the Airbrush from working on my Vb and also drilled out the lightning holes in the seat framework and opened up the exhausts.. I need to continue with the Vb but I'll think I'll do this next..
Nice work and looking forward to seeing it progress.
Cheers

It's getting close to the wing fitting stage, but first the canopy needs another coat of grey.

Re: Seafire 17
The carpet monster has struck, the little bigger has stolen one of my wing fold support struts straight off the sprue.
As its a simple pole I will reproduce a pair out of brass tube to give it some strength.

Re: Seafire 17
Looking good, Al. Good call on the brass: as you say, it should give some strength to the folded wing assemblies.

Re: Seafire 17
That's looking great Splash! I have one started but I am toying with the idea of trying to make the wings movable. I like the idea of using the brass.
