Marky's Prototype***FINISHED*** and PR.XIX **FINISHED**

Honoring Edgar Brooks, a Spitfire researcher and contributor to many modelling forums, we have the Every Mark of Spitfire GB -- in which at least one of each will be built, not in a free-for-all, but to a "plan".
The GB runs from 27 Feb 2016 to 10 April and your host are Martin R and Sir T.

Thanks everyone!. It was just me going by eye based on the colour scheme in Alfred Price's Spitfire Story book. Did have two goes at it and despite them looking different in the pot when mixed I think they ended up the same!! . It is a lovely colour and unusual to see a Spitfire in that sort of scheme. It's Humbrol 65 with a reasonable helping of Medium Sea Grey (165 I think but MDF said 166- check before using!). Anyway..... she's done!!..

The starboard serial using Martin R's tape method, much better than the other side!!.

The PR.XIX goes from one success to disaster to success etc. I put the wheel doors on with the model upside down and they looked great. Turned it over later and the doors nearly touch the ground!. Of course they are now well set and would rip the legs off trying to change them. I think I will do just that later, but for now she's keeping them. Also, have started the Airfix PR.XIX which looks great in the box and is keeping that up in building so far. Pics of the MPM XIX....

Work done on the PR.XIX is getting better and she looks more the part now. Wheel doors will have to stay until I can rip the legs off and get some better fitting ones.

The canopy's vac-form but fits quite well. Filled a tiny gap each side with white glue, made a little mess so will tidy that up when the glue is properly dry, as well as some patches elsewhere.

Nice work on the prototype Marky, I feel your pain about decal surgery, I'm on the third build in a row where I've had to splice or hand paint codes, serials, nose art and even Squadron markings!
The PR is coming along nicely too

Ooh that's not good, I'd have gone mad doing that many codes like that!. I don't have small hands and fingers so tiny codes are difficult at best and the above problems are always there!. But sometimes you have to do it to get the code you need. I miss the old days when I just used to pick a scheme from the kit!

Lovely job on both those PRXIXs. What paints did you use, please?

Hi, thanks dwomby. Swedish xix was Humbrol 230 all over, humbrol 60 spinner and 33 for the prop blades. RAF xix was Humbrol 230 fuselage sides and underside, Humbrol 165 top of fuselage and wing uppers.

Thank you!. Despite the troubles with the MPM kit it can come good, you just have to watch it as you go. The main wheel doors are a case in point. They looked fine when I glued them on but when I turned the model over they are all but touching the ground. A bit of sanding there would sort that easily. The cockpit needs work too. Apart from being basic they tell you to glue the IP, seat and bulkheads in places that make them all out of place, the IP is several mm too far forward and the bulkhead and seat are too far back.
The Airfix kit by comparison is a really nice kit.

Thanks chaps, happy with the outcome too!. The Swedish one was done because the MPM kit came from the BoB Millenium Set and I couldn't find where I put the decals. Luckily the Airfix kit had two options so I used them both!.
The MPM does have the plus point of coming with three sizes of slipper tank, two are now filling the spares box.
