Re: Fokker D.VII build?
I think we need a roll call again
I count only possibly 5 so it might have to be a shared build [SB]

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Yes, just missing final confirmation from pmmaker at this stage. I'll follow it up.fredk wrote:I think we need a roll call again

Re: Fokker D.VII build?
Sorry guys! I have been scrambling like crazy the past month with all the stuff that goes with the end of the school year (for those who don't know, I teach 4th graders) so I've been rather invisible.
I plan on joining in and building a model.

No worries. Same industry, so totally understand - though our school year is 6 months out of phase with yours so my insano period will be late November.
Well that gives us the requisite definites, so I'll contact jRatz to request the GB to be set up.
Just a reminder that I am roaming about Europe through most of July so thanks to lancfan for stepping in as joint GBL.

Re: Fokker D.VII build?
I would have to get my hands on a decent 72nd scale kit but need an excuse to build some more WWI stuff.

Re: Fokker D.VII build?
Love to have you on board. Revell, Roden, Mac or Omega are your best options here. The Revell kit is pretty basic, though. The Roden is nice and detailed and a good option as long as you don't mind a few minor fit issues here and there and decals that explode on contact with water....

Re: Fokker D.VII build?
Me and Roden don't get along very well already and I have only tried some of their 72nd armor so far.
Just checked Scalemates and pretty sure I did the Revell kit when I was little, also the Renwal Aero-skins version. Those were a bit tough for an 8 year old.
Never heard of Mac or Omega. Look like newer toolings. Any good?

Re: Fokker D.VII build?
WWI models in 72nd scale are too small for me to build at this stage in my life. Eyesight ain't what it used to be, neither are my hands and fingers. I'm going to go the 48th scale and inexpensive route with a focus on simplicity. I just picked up a 1/48th scale kit by SMĚR for $13.00 US off eBay. I've built this kit before a few years back with great results so I decided to go with a known quality. I'll jazz it up with a nice paint job and the appropriate rigging. Looking forward to getting to work on it.
BTW philp, agree 100% with you when it comes to Roden(t) kits. I've only ever built two of their WWI kits and I hated them like I've never hated a plastic kit before. I wouldn't build one even if someone gave it to me for free.

I don't mind some challenges in a kit as long as I haven't paid a lot for it (in which case I'd expect better!) and the finished product is worth it. Roden kits are inexpensive and I think they look very nice finished so I'm willing to put up with their occasional nonsense. I totally get that others don't share this philosophy and don't need parts-fit and decal stress in their life.
My D.VII will definitely be the Roden kit so you can watch from afar pmmaker and appreciate not being subjected to it yourself

Re: Fokker D.VII build?
I actually built 2 Roden kits and they did turn out rather well. It was just the work needed to get the final result was all out of proportion to what I got.
I tip my hat off to you VV for tackling one of these Roden kits. I'm sure it will turn out great. I`'ll stick with old SMER kit. Either way it will be a fun project. I can't wait to see the results.

Yes, I wouldn't wish it on the unwilling! I'm sure you'll get a great result with your SMER kit.
I've PM'd jratz to ask for the GB to go on the calendar for July to mid August.
