Reach for the Stars **Finished**

A Whiffery GB for any type of model. Simple decal changes, mild surgery or major. But all must have a story to back it up, no matter how silly or unbelievable.
The GB runs from 15 Sep through 16 Oct, and your host is FredK.

Reach for the Stars **Finished**

Post by fredk »

I'll use this old Matchbox TF104G Starfighter.
It'll be a simple build with just a bit of extra plastic added.

Its been in my stash for a while, with no decals. The kit has errors which will work to my advantage
Its one of the rare kits Matchbox did not put pilots in

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Actually, it's bit a bad pop track and ideal for getting people on a dance floor! :-D

Am I right though? 8-)

No.

Here's my story for this.
Sit back, I wanna tell you a story [in my best Max Bygraves voice]

1966.
NATO intelligence identifies that the East German Air Force have received some of the new supersonic MiG 21s.
The RAF in Germany are waiting to re-equip with the English Electric Lightning but there are delays in getting the old F3 version up graded to the new F6 standard, and as yet it still lacks any cannon to make it a really viable fighter interceptor which can take on the MiG 21.
As an interim measure the RAF needs a supersonic fighter soon. It chooses the F104 Starfighter. Part of the reason is so that RAF Germany have a commonality in equipment with the West Germans and the Dutch who are also getting in F104s
The RAF chose to buy a few re-furbished CF104Ds from Canada. Making the rear seater a weapons officer. A single cannon was installed and special conformal belly fuel tank was fitted for its role as a short range MiG interceptor.
Only six CF104 F.1 were acquired and used by a detachment of 1 squadron under the leadership of Group Captain D. Bader ~ who nabbed one of the 104s for himself.

Just a quick question, Fred, was Bader legless when he flew this thing? I'd assume he was, given their reputation.

Yes, Kevan, Bader lost his legs in a flying accident in the early 30's I think. Flying a Siskin or Bulldog.

Hmmm! sounds 'More' like a DazDaMan project, Ken? :-D
