I ‘ve gone against my best instincts and have started by applying the blue. I have used Revell 51 as it looks like it might nearly match the transfers. Not that it is a show stopper if it doesn’t. All in all this has proven to be a frustrating set back.

The pilot for the Curtiss is being painted whilst the blue dries (it seems to be dry, but I am leaving it for now).

Having looked at the blue in good daylight and it needed another coat. That has been applied just now. Subject to my success with my attempt at a ‘blitzbau’ tomorrow, I might be able to mask and airbrush another colour.

I completed the ‘blitz’ well within the prescribed 24 hrs - even with 12 hours off! Mind you, it was about the simplest build imaginable - but at least I did it!

Back to the Hawk II, i masked the wing and airbrushed the red, that is now drying. The last thing to do is the chrome yellow and I hope to get that done tomorrow. If all has worked out satis then I will be back where I was 2 weeks ago! Classic TeeELL 1 step forward, many steps back.

Fingers crossed that this time the masking will work as you want it too Tony. Here's hoping too that you will not be taking any more backward steps with this one at least...!

The red has worked reasonably well with just a few patches of paint creep. I will use some white spirit and white paint to resolve those. What has surprised me is that both the Revell blue enamel paint and gloss red Humbrol enamel paints didn’t like the Halfords White primer (well certainly after the primer had been polished smooth!). With both colours I had to let the first coats dry thoroughly before a finishing coat, but it is done.
All I have left to do is masking and spraying the Chrome Yellow. I should be able to do that later today although the ‘I’ve learnt this lesson before’ half of me says leave it until tomorrow!

Looking good Tony, it's going to be a stunner when it's done!

Back on track, Tony and if your instinct is telling you to give it more time then it might be best to listen - I speak from hard won experience!

LM,
I have left well alone. I would like to move forward with this model build and get it finished.

There is going to be a short interlude whilst I transport all my modelling stuff back to my place. It will need organising when I get home as I have turned the 3rd bedroom (5’ x 5’ a bedroom!! 1.5mtr x 1.5 mtr) into my modelling den. Quite where everything will go .......

Happy modelling until I return. Doubtless Iggy will have finished 3 or 4 models by then?

The car is chock-a-block full but the lathe, a stack of paints and miscellaneous other items that will be moved next weekend. I bet there will be something I’ve left behind that I need ;-).

Good luck with the move, and I hope you get to unpack your airbrush more quickly than me... 18 months and counting
Best wishes

Everything should be unpacked tomorrow Jim, but getting the room ‘right’ before I continue modelling might take another day. I have a reasonable amount of storage but what to put where will be the question!
