Re: 'Aces High' GB
afair no RAF pilot had any enemy aircraft 'kills'.
The 'kills' were all done by RN Sea Harriers. Two RN pilots got 3 each, a few others got 2 each, most of the rest got 1 each
A couple of British pilots got close to being 'Aces' during the Korean War
The last aerial victory by an RAF pilot in an RAF aeroplane was 1948

Re: 'Aces High' GB
Same difference really; Harriers and Sea Harriers were the only 'fighter' types used by the UK in the Falklands War. The RAF flew GR3s on ground attack, the RN flew Sea Harriers on CAP, so they got the 'kills'

No what I meant was I only used the Falklands War as an example, has any Harrier pilot achieved more than 5 air kills from any nation in any conflict?

Re: 'Aces High' GB
The only two other users of Harriers who may have used them in battle are the US Marines and Indian Navy. Neither have any Aces on them. The USMC has a couple of Aces who flew Harriers but became aces on other mounts

Re: 'Aces High' GB
Do we need another head count to see who is in?
Taking names since start of May, we have
fredk
gnomemeansgnome
so thats...um, let me add them up.............two
and if I work on him maybe I can get Mav back in
I think we need more than 2 to make a GB. Even a few more to make a SB would be nice
edit: now 3 with philp in

I don't know how many kills those USMC pilots had in AV-8 Harriers, they flew F-14 as well.fredk wrote:The only two other users of Harriers who may have used them in battle are the US Marines and Indian Navy. But lets take Richthofen's red DR1. He was undoubtedly an ace. But he did not achieve Ace in the DR1, afair it was in an Albatros D.III. Do we exclude the Red DR1? I think not.
Many other pilots achieved Ace status in one aeroplane, or between mounts, and each of their mounts I think is allowed; therefore, a USMC AV-8 Harrier as flown by one of those USMC Aces should be allowed
Any thoughts on my reasoning?

I'm sure I've got a few Ace's mounts in the stash so you can add me to the list.

Re: 'Aces High' GB
I agree, I thought it was the pilot that was the ace not the aircraft.fredk wrote:Maverick231 wrote:No what I meant was I only used the Falklands War as an example, has any Harrier pilot achieved more than 5 air kills from any nation in any conflict?I don't know how many kills those USMC pilots had in AV-8 Harriers, they flew F-14 as well.fredk wrote:The only two other users of Harriers who may have used them in battle are the US Marines and Indian Navy. Plus I'm still in if I can find something appropriate.
