Re: Beany's Blitz - a Revell Classic, the 1/32 Me262 A-1a
I have literally just spent the last hour and a half trying to spray one colour and I'm on the verge of throwing the towel in on this as it has totally stripped any joy from the build. The culprit is Humbrol Acrylic 247/RLM76. I thinned and thinned it but it just constantly clogged up the spray gun (not airbrush) until the point where it was so thin it just ran and pooled as you can see here.
I would normally use Tamiyas and even found ratios for mixing the three main colours of RLM74/75 & 76 but unfortunately was missing one of the component colour to make up RLM76, so went with the Humbrol crap instead - whadda mistake-a to make-a!!
I'm going to walk away for an hour or two and see how I feel later about persevering with the build. Sorry to disappoint chaps
A thoroughly deject, Al.

Ouch, sorry to hear that Al, as it looks like you were making good progress. Looks like you've even got the wings and engines assembled. Hope you come back to it... Too late to change the colour scheme? Black undersides, maybe?

18:27 OK, had a cuppa with the wife and played a simple games on the PC for a few minutes and generally calmed down. I've washed and scraped most of the Humbrol crap off and have now oversprayed with Tamiya XF23 Light Blue, which isn't a million miles away from RLM76 so that will have to do.
I have to go out food shopping now so will get back to this later this evening.
TTFN.

On to some of the smaller parts - wheels and engine. Instrument panel and tyres painted Revell Aqua 9 Anthracite and engine and nozzles Xtracolor 503 Oily Steel.

21:52 The last post for today.
A bit more detail work - Vallejo Model Air RLM 02 brush painted on the hydraulic actuators, wheel hubs and undercarriage legs.
In desperation I tried spraying Xtracrylix RLM74 without much luck. However, the awful coverage actually gives a kind of mottle effect which is what I was going for anyway. I am still a novice with the airbrush so was getting far too much paint coming out - I probably needed a different Aztec nozzle for that but didn't have the time too look for one.
Poor old Otto/Franz/Gustav in his new black leather jacket - I'm hoping he will benefit from copious dry brushing effects to bring him to life tomorrow - time permitting.
A disappointing day and not expecting to finish in time tomorrow by a long chalk but what the heck - chalk this one up to experience eh?!
Better to have Blitz-ed and lost than never....
Cheers
Al

Sorry to hear about your paint problems Al. I've used Humbrol 247 with a hairy stick and it doesn't go on smoothly for me either.
Keep it up.

Glad to see you didn’t let it beat you Al. This is starting to look good. Gutsy move trying to Blitz this one. Respect for that mate.
All the best.

Re: Beany's Blitz - a Revell Classic, the 1/32 Me262 A-1a
Thanks for the comments guys. For various reasons I've not been able to restart this one yet this morning. Having started at 11:00 yesterday morning and finishing well before 23:00 last night, I may be able to save this build if I switch to the "wimp Blitz" mode and restart at 11:00 today and aim to finish by 23:00 tonight if that is permissible?
I'll carry on with the build anyway as I want to get it off the workbench, but am happy to take it over to Work In Progress if necessary.
Thanks for the support so far too. I don't think it was too ambitious, there are less that 50 parts to the kit and if anything I find the size makes it easier to work with, not too many small fiddly parts etc. It was only the calamity with the spraying/airbrushing yesterday that knocked me for six. Lesson learnt - hand brush Humbrol Acrylics only!
Cheers
