Guess I found a victim:
Airfix old tool A4D Skyhawk! I got 2 in the stash, so it don´t make me feel sad to sacrifice one for this GB.
I know this is a kit from the 1950ies, so, as a child of its time, it´s not sooo bad, but for "today´s eyes" ?
I´ll try to show it some respect, though, when building it.
It´s a 90ies boxing, so I don´t have to worry bout disintegrating decals?

Those Airfix decals from that era - ....don´t they have a bad reputation? I´ll find out..... :???:

Since I see opportunity to get some Starfix kits, I was thinking: any news for this planned GB?
I´m in, definitely :-)

Add me to that list please Daz. I may even dig out a PM Spitfire. (Someone building a Spitfire on this forum? Unheard of I'm sure  .)

All the best.

Greg

Yeah Daz I am still in with the PM Spit seaplane kit most likely. If not I am sure I can find another (un)worthy. I know a shop about an hour away from here that might still have a Starfix kit but I am not feeling that masochistic.

Just curious, what is the point of this GB ?

Find the worst kit in your stash, then what -- build it poorly or do a creditable job on it ?

If the former, why bother ?
If the latter, then why not change the GB name, maybe "sow's ear to silk purse" ?

The think it's the latter John.

I have to say it'll be worth following, I'm always impressed what the people on this forum can produce from humble beginnings!

That sounds like a much better title - and you don't have to fool the software to post it.

David.

I think this GB is quite "fun-orientated"?
...but if you try to make a PM/Starfix (or ye olde Airfix Skyhawk) kit into a silk purse, the fun is gone.
So my aim will be to make something in between a sow´s ear and a purse...
Great advantage of plane models is: if they don´t look soo good in the end, you can still let ´em dangle from the
ceiling

I think just the challenge/experience alone of building a junk kit (that you would normally leave buried in the stash) will make for a fun gb, without having to try to improve on the rubbish raw material. The banter should be first class.

I'm not intending to produce a silk purse, just build what may otherwise have inhabited the stash until the sun turns red giant

that´s my opinion, too ;-)

For me the fun of this build is the same as why we actually build the kits in the first place. Making it fun for YOU. If chucking together uncompromising plastic and painting the result is your thing then fine, if you get your fun from correcting every defect and detailing the hell out of it then that's fine too.
Your model....your way.
Just my 2p worth. Personally I go somewhee half way between the two.

All the best.

Greg

Yep, that was pretty much what I intended.

I, myself, have a couple of Starfix kits in the loft, and while it's not my intention to make them stand out from the crowd, I intend to make them presentable.

A bit like myself, really. I generally look like something out of The Walking Dead, but I can look reasonably good on occasion! :ha:

Another contender for this GB just arrived here:

Image
Now I´m the proud owner of a Starfix 1/100 Starfighter kit! :ha:
Made in Israel: I hope it will not make me "meschuggah"! (Picked this word (and other words...) up when I stayed in Israel)
I wonder if Starfix ever produced their own moulds, or if they only ripped off of Heller, Airfix, Matchbox?
This seems a Heller rip off to me, sprues look very Hellerish, and Heller had a 1/100 F-104 in their Cadet range (it´s a kit
they stopped selling a long time ago).
Wow, it has boxed-in wheel wells!
I´m very curious ´bout finding out if lots of filler is needed?
