Thanks David and Martin, its not perfect but I am pretty chuffed with how it turned out. :)

you mentioned masking and whether a punch might work. I suggest you invest in one of these:

There are cheap ones around - I have one, but they are nowhere near as good (I’ve even the frighteningly expensive Dispae? device and that doesn’t work as well as this). BIG tip: place a first layer of masking tape down on the cutting board and then add a second layer; if you do this then removing the ‘masks’ made from the second layer is very, very much easier.
Thanks for this Tony, looks like just the tool for the job! :)

This Mig-15 kit does have quite deep panel lines and could be finished without a wash but I used one anyway and tried to keep it light especially on the undersides.

I managed to get quite a decent matt coat this time and final assembly was straight forward. I really like the way the undercarriage legs and the doors attach. I didn’t have to use any sort of jig to keep everything lined up and its really sturdy thanks to the shaped holes and good fit.

The last job was removing the canopy mask. I wondered if the paint might lift on the centre frame as I had just painted it in (there is no frame on the part) but it was perfect!

I thought this was a really good kit and the paint scheme is different to anything else in my display cabinet!

As you may have already seen in the aviation section I have been quietly working away on the F-86 from Airfix. The finished pictures are here…

I do like comparison photo’s so now that both kits are finished, here we go with the Mig-15 bis and F-86F…

At first, they appear to look quite similar but what surprised me during the builds was how much bigger the wing is on the Sabre. I like the higher cockpit on the Sabre too. The Mig of course has the wings mid fuselage with a higher tail for a slightly different look and of course, it has those big cannons which are on display under the nose.

I’m no technical expert so I'm just going to pick a favourite based on looks for fun. It’s hard to choose because I like both designs but I think maybe the Sabre has a sleeker look to it.

As an aircraft I like the Sabre more, but in this instance I love the MIG more totally based on the paint scheme

Really nice metal finish on the sabre and the mig is strikingly different as well as being excellent

You see, I'm completely the opposite. I've never really cared for the look of the F-86, I find the Mig-15 a much nicer looking, better balanced, aircraft, especially in that scheme. Besides, it has a British engine so we should really vote for the home team :-D

Beautiful work with both aircraft Stu, certainly a striking pair to have in the cabinet 👍
Best wishes

Right, I hadn't thought of that  I know the Mig scheme is distracting (in a good way), perhaps I need to build a mig in NMF for an easier comparison. Or an F-86 in stripes - now theres a thought!
