Simple and effective detail in the cockpit where it can be seen gets a thumbs up from me

Re: Miguelito's untidy work bench
Thanks, Gents!
I managed to prime and paint the FW-190 in one day over the weekend. Then I attached it to the handy stand that come with these Matchbox kits. In preparation of decals, I grabbed a rattle can of high gloss clear and sprayed it down. Then I realized I had grabbed a can of high gloss pearl coat that I used for an old hot rod project I was working on.
So, now I have a sparkly FW-190. I'm hoping that a couple coats of flat clear will knock out the pearl finish, but we'll see how it goes. I was definitely not going to start over with a new paint job.
I have to say, for a kit that's been in a box for 40+ years, the decals are fantastic! Some of our modern model producers should take note, because the Matchbox decals are easy to work with, and settle right down into every nook and cranny.
Now, I need to stretch some sprue to add guns and a Pitot to the wings, and I'll have to pick out a few details that need some more painting.
Thanks! The pilot is a resin figure from Aerobonus. I think. I picked him up and painted him a couple years ago. I believe he was part of a 2 pilot set of a RAF bomber crew.Softscience wrote:Lots of really nice stuff going on! The pilot really caught my eye. That's pretty effective facemask detail. Is he from a kit or resin?
The orc dudes look great too!

Re: Miguelito's untidy work bench
I’m still here.
Been a while since my last post, and while I haven’t stopped building, the pace has slowed down a bit and some of the subject matter has changed.
Over the past 14 months, my hobby space has morphed into my virtual office. I think working in the space I use to relax and focus on hobbies has taken some of the joy/relaxation out of the hobby. Or maybe, I’m just sick of being in the house. Either way, my modeling projects have been slow and sparse, and I’ve honestly spent more time painting Warhammer figures than anything else.
In an effort to get back into model building, I figured I’d get more active on here again. More eyes on a project will give more motivation to get projects done.
Now, that I’m back, let’s start with an oldie, but goodie. Matchbox’s 1/72 Hawker Tempest.
More updates to come...

Nice! Yours has a different color scheme to the plastic. Mine is mustard and olive green.JamesPerrin wrote: ↑May 29th, 2021, 2:34 pm Haha snap! https://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=22039
I got most of the subassemblies together and the interior is ready for a priming. I plan on building the Mk II version in RIAF markings. It’s also going to be in flight, so I can use Matchbox’s excellent posable stand.
Now, it’s off to the paint shop.

Nice choice, I've built a few Matchbox Tempests over the years.

Re: Miguelito's untidy work bench
The Tempest is just about finished being built and almost ready for priming/painting. I’m always amazed at how well these Matchbox kits hold up. Sure the cockpit is a little light on details, but the engraved panel lines and ease of building with a pretty decent fit, makes up for any short-comings in my book.
We’ve had an incredibly wet May/June here, so while it thundering and rained most of the morning, I wasn’t able to go out to the garage and prime paint the Tempest. I took the opportunity to crack open another kit. This time the 1/56 Marder III from Warlord Games.
Less than 2 hours later, I have another kit ready for some priming and paint. Even comes with a small crew of three decent figures. Now, if it’d just hold off raining for a bit.

Both look great but I really like the expressions on the faces of the Marder crew!
