Tank Mk.IV D51 'Deborah'

I found this web page via the BBC; it tells some of the story of the last surviving tank that fought in the battle of Cambrai in November 1917.
After being damaged during the attack, the tank was buried and laid undiscovered until 1998 and now will be the central exhibit in a new museum to be opened in the anniversary of the battle. Fascinating and humbling in equal measure, the worn page send to be well researched and written.

I watched that too. I don't have a great deal of interest in tanks (planes is my thang) but the show did grab me and Guy's enthusiasm is infectious.

Shame he wasn't allowed to drive it down Lincoln high street though.... That would have been a sight to see. 'elf and safety I guess

I heard him say the Police were worried what might happen if it shot out of control. Remodelled Lincoln High Street probably!!.

To be honest, I think it was better to remember the battle at the actual site, although I do recognise the close association of Lincoln and the creation of the Tank.

Funnily enough I worked on the Sainsbury store in Lincoln on Tritton Road, which I believe to have been built on the site of the company that built the originals....although I didn't know it at the time!

I saw Guy's programme and really enjoyed it - I don't think there's anything he's done on TV that I haven't enjoyed really. Yes, Lincoln is of course forever connected with the development of the tank but I have to agree with Iggie in that taking the vehicle to the site of the actual battle was the better and more poignant thing to do.
