Focke Wulf FW-190D-9 'Yellow 5' by gnomemeansgnome

The seventeenth of almost thirty models from a craig's liszt job lot in December 2014 to be rebuilt and/or restored, and the sixth restoration I have done this year. I am guessing it is an early 1980's Revell boxing of an earlier kit but perhaps someone on the forum could enlighten me. This was the only one that wasn't 72nd scale and I had no idea what to do with it as I had never built a model airplane bigger than 48th scale. Cannon and mg barrels from Evergreen dowelling and drilled out. Spinner and paddle blade resin set by Robert's Model of West Hazelton PA, courtesy of Beany who kindly supplied them to me via the post. Other than that the kit, though battered, was largely intact. I toned down the watery spot detail from maybe 30 years ago with a special copy blend to replicate the hellblau in order to fade the worst of them to a pale appearance. I would also like to have displayed it with a port side engine cowling removed but that would have exposed the total lack of annular radiator detail, so I left it closed for the time being. The upper wing balkankreuzen were replaced and the whole model was worked over here and there to create scratched paint, exhaust and cannon soot, etc. I should probably add a werk number on the fin at some point too, grrrr....Other than that it's done for now.

I've already seen this build on your WW thread, GMG, but it's such a good looking Dora I thought I'd tell you here as well!

Lovely stuff GmG, I wish I had the skill to that sort of weathering and wear and tear, it adds so much to the realism.

Cheers Zee, but really it was all done by dint of experience in doing it not so well on previous efforts. I have utilised the brushed on mottling in the past but this has been the most successful result so far, This one looks all right from a few feet away, and really it does need more work but I have other projects crowding the workbench awaiting their turn. None of my kits are ever truly 100% finished. I often return to them and pick away at various things later on.
