Thank you.
Well here we are in mid-March, and it seems nobody has finished their Hunter yet. Mine will certainly take a at least a couple of weeks more.

The red requires some touching up here and there. The wing tanks and pylons are from the fine Revell kit, and display a large nose-up angle when offered up to the ZTS Plastyk wing. But they were intended for the outer hard points. Strictly speaking, I should at least build up the forward profile of the pylons (rather than reducing the height of the rear end). Messy.

Do we get expelled for not meeting the GB deadline?

Nice smooth red paint. Which brand did you use?

Humbrol 19 gloss red. Started with Humbrol 174 satin red (airbrushed over Tamiya fine white primer), which turned out a bit dark. Simply brushed the thinned gloss enamel on. Since there are multiple coats of red and the satin light aircraft grey, the masking demarcation is evident. Not really satisfactory, but hopefully disguised by all the Pledge coats needed to gloss the LAG.
Can't wait to finish this project!

Of course not. You just get sent to the naughty corner for the rest of the day.

Seriously, that paint scheme looks great.

The red looks great, don't rush now to finish. Would be a pity to make any mistakes after all your hard work.

Thanks, chaps,

Spent all morning today touching up red, grey and painting the wheel wells, such as they are. Seat just need the ejection pull handles, and I can close up the cockpit.
Compared to the Revell benchmark, the Plastyk wheels are better sized, but the Airfix mainwheel legs are less chunky. The Airfix wheel doors obviously do not fit the Plastyk kit, but they look better. I am also using the Airfix canopy with the raked windscreen frames, and it is a poor fit to the spine behind the cockpit.

Fin being masked for a white rectangle. This will leave a white border to the fin flash, and hopefully eliminate a pink stripe between the red and blue.

Image

Of course it would have been better to airbrush the fin white first (or mask off the Tamiya fine white primer), but the necessary white border to the fin flash escaped my attention until now.

Cheers,

David

Apart from the red bits the whole airframe is light aircraft grey

Nice, I was never keen on the silver underside seen on a/c in the 50’s to 70’s

And you have to remember it carried over to many exported aircraft in foreign service!

At last! One of the few success stories in this build:

Not yet game to check how the fin flash fits in there!

This is going to be an awesome result. Beautiful. Kitbashing at its best.

All the best,

This colour scheme is going to really show the Hunter's fine lines. Well worth the effort you are making, David.
