Re: Shane's Desert Hunter
Cheers David, the decal sheet says RAF Light Stone but Mr Bradley says not so in his book.He says its more of a yellow shade. I looked at various images online and came up with a bit of a mix of Revell Aqua Sand and a splodge of their Dark Earth. I now know I won't be able to replicate the exact mix but my plan is to cover that putty then randomly spray the rest of the airframe. May add some tone but not to worry if not.dwomby wrote:I like that base colour.

How do you mask? I just had an epic fail again trying to mask using Blue Tac type stuff (couldn't find the real brand). I just can't get it to stick to the model.

Re: Shane's Desert Hunter
Hi David, I use Blue Tac or similar brands UHU or white tac rolled out into sausages about 1mm thick. I usually give the paint a quick coat of klear as it helps prevent any greasy marks from the Tac. I fill in the gaps withe tape although I have used Copydex ( white glue) in the past but you have to throw the blue tac away as you can't separate them unlike peeling off the tape. I've hear people over your side of the water use silly putty and I know there is now a dedicated modelling camouflage putty by Mig( i.e expensive).

That's starting to look really sharp. Great work Shane.

Love the colors.
I am making one a Jordanian from the 7-Day War and am still bummed they didn't paint theirs in desert camo.

Re: Shane's Desert Hunter
I've not done much these last few days other than give it a couple of coats of klear to prep for the decals. Also I've been putting off masking the radome, there is not a panel line to follow and masking compound curves is always a nightmare for me.

Love that camo scheme and beautifully applied. Yes, that small radome is a challenge to mask. The last Hunter I built, I just put some thinned black into a small cup and dipped the nose in a mm or two. Worked pretty well that time but no guarantees.

Cut a hole in an index card or similar the size of the back of the radome. Slide it on, paint and slide it off.
Sounds simple right?

Realised that last night while looking at pictures on HSS machines. It's been missed off the instructions.dwomby wrote:Yes, that small radome is a challenge to mask.

Re: Shane's Desert Hunter
You may have saved me some hardship with this. Dug out my hole punch and card, just about the right size. I've used Blu Tac to hold it in place. Hopefully it's lined up nice and even. I'm going to spray it before bed.philp wrote:Cut a hole in an index card or similar the size of the back of the radome. Slide it on, paint and slide it off.
