A very rare foray into this part of the forum for me! This is one of the new Modelcollect range of German military subjects and a very entertaining build indeed.
Paints are all Revell Aqua with a coat of Tamiya Smoke and then a matt varnish on top.
The flak guns are the same as the ones installed on top of the Flak towers in Berlin and were capable of firing up to 12 rounds per barrel per minute, throwing a 57lb shell up to 50,000 get plus.

Great work, Jim, that really does look the business and I would have taken it for 1/35th such is the excellent looking detail. In answer to the "paper panzer" question above, this vehicle never got off the drawing board. The E-Series of vehicles were proposed as a standardized set of AFV's, to include turretless and turreted vehicles ranging from something like 5 to 100 tonnes or more, which were to have replaced older designs, such as Stug III, Jagdpanzer/Stug IV, Panzer IV and Hetzer, together with the more complex designs of heavier AFV's such as Panther, Tiger II and Jagdtiger. None of the E-Series vehicles ultimately saw service. As alluded to by Jim above, however, the FLAK 40/2 did indeed see service mainly on FLAK towers and consisted of two formidable FLAK 40 128mm weapons twinned up on the same static mounting. If my memory serves me correctly FLAK 40 AA guns, together with smaller calibre weapons such as 88mm FLAK, were used to attack Soviet armour from Berlin's FLAK towers during the final battle for the city.

Thanks all! I have to say this is a rewarding little build (not so little actually!) and the moulded detail really makes it easy to bring up with washes etc.

Shaun's explanation is spot on from the research I did on the Flak 40; too heavy for a mobile weapon at first, and then as the tide of war turned against Germany it was increasingly needed as a defensive weapon only. The E-100 became the AFV equivalent of the Luft 46 aircraft; great on paper but too late to make a difference (even if they could!)

That's cracking work. It does look like it would tip over though!!. Does it have support legs?.

Mark, there are no support legs but as this was never built in real life (as far as I can tell) so who knows if it would have worked.....
