If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Iggie, that is just perfect thank you. There is some additional bracing in there that I’d not known of! I shall use the info to produce a 4FTS ‘504 in Abu suer.

Fantastic. Many thanks.
The astronauts looked on the CM as pretty roomy - especially compared to Mercury and Gemini.

Glad to be of service chaps!
I'll try for some better shots up in the aviation gallery next time if I can; it's not always lit (such as it ever is) when I go through there and with the mornings drawing in as they are natural light will be scarce!
Still, soon be Christmas

Re: Science Museum, South Kensington, London
Most definitely a Vimy. In fact, it's a Vimy IV -- the Vimy IV flown across the Atlantic for the very first time by Alcock and Brown back in June 1919. A truly historic aircraft.
The only other one that survives (though there are a couple of replicas out there) is the equally historic G-EAOU (or God 'elp all of us, as it was known ), the first aircraft to fly from England to Australia, also in 1919, piloted by Ross and Keith Smith.

What size (roughly) is the cutaway Lanc ? I assume there are explanations to go with the numbered positions ?

From memory it's about 3' in length John. I think there is a key in the display and I'll try and get some photographs next weekjRatz wrote:What size (roughly) is the cutaway Lanc ? I assume there are explanations to go with the numbered positions ?

Re: Science Museum, South Kensington, London
All these are most useful.
Thanks for taking the time to take the photos and post them up.
If its possible and you get the chance; could you take a couple of the rigging on the Vimy's tail planes?
I'm building one at the mo and deciphering the tail plane rigging from photos and drawings is a bit confusing

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: Science Museum, South Kensington, London
Fred,
I have J.M. Bruce's Vickers Vimy and also the June 1959 Aeromodeller Aircraft Described, both with drawings (of the tail unit) and numerous photos. If I can be of assistance, let me know.

Re: Science Museum, South Kensington, London
Thanks, but I have several books, magazines and photos -both period and new - of the Vimy; either they do not show the tail rigging clearly or none of them agree, leaving out many wires 'for clarity' or just leaving them out
