5th Line Battalion King’s German Legion

Uniform and Equipment of the Legion's Line battalions was of standard British pattern of the time. In accord it was repeatedly revised during the years from 1803 until 1815. The principal distinction from British units was that the standard pack was painted dark blue rather than black. The 5th's light Company was partially armed with Baker rifles and was separated from the battalion at Waterloo in the midst of the battle to assist in the defence of La Haye Sainte.

Almost a year since the British received new recruits. Here we have the 2nd Battalion, 69th South Lincolnshire Regiment of Foot. Made up from figures by HaT, Esci, Italeri, Revell and Airfix.

These figures represent the Landwehr Battalion Hildesheim, who formed part of the Hanoverian 5th Brigade. They were rather poor relations of the Allied army at Waterloo. They were a local militia raised in 1814 and poorly equipped. Hardly any had bayonets. The white shakos were intended for regiments in the West Indies but were supplied to these units as a stopgap, mixed with the usual black ones, although these were the old pattern stovepipe type, rather than the new Belgic caps. Officers did get Belgic shakos.

Very nice Ratch, you must have an awful lot of patience to paint so many small scale figures.
I always wanted the Waterloo farm house when I was a kid but by the time I'd saved up enough pocket money the local model shop never had any in stock. When you were a kid with a pocket full of tanners and thrupenny bits in a model shop and they didn't have what you went in for you aren't coming home without at least a four engined bomber. Oddly enough they would have them in stock again a week later when I never had enough money, I never did get my hands on one.

Just lots of practice David this batch of 18 figures took less than a week, and they were not my primary job on the bench.
