The Commemorative Harrier GB *** Complete & Archived ***
Morning folks.
This year marks 3 very big moments in Harrier history!
Firstly the 50th anniversary since the Hawker Siddley Harrier GR.1 entered service with the Harrier Conversion Unit at RAF Wittering back in April 18th 1969.
Secondly the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Transatlantic Air Race in which Harrier XV741 famously achieved the fastest time in the London to New York leg piloted by Sqn Leader Tom Lecky.
And thirdly the 40th Anniversary of the BAe Systems Sea Harrier!
https://www.navywings.org.uk/news-blog/ ... ers-day-2/;
Me being a massive Harrier fan(60 in the stash currently) just couldn't let these anniversaries pass by without suggesting a Group Build to commemorate such an amazing and(at the time) unique aircraft!
And this year all of us who choose to go to Yeovilton Navy Days and/or the Royal International Air Tattoo will have the fantastic opportunity to see one/two flying! (I know they've been at Farnborough the last couple of Airshows but RIAT is much more accessible especially with Totterdown Farm)
Which ofcourse has turned into a double display!
I've looked through the past Group Builds and other than the VTOL SIG I ran last year the last Harrier GB we had was April 1st to May 1st 2016 so providing we start after May 1st well be just fine.
I'm thinking of running from June 22nd to July 28th which is 4 weeks and means I can still be GBL on both this and the F-16 Fighting Falcon GB.
Plus with the EAV-8B Matador being at RIAT this might give us Harrier fans more desire to build our own!

Any kit, any scale, any mark, prototypes and experimental aircraft are all allowed.
WhatIf's are allowed if your adventurous enough!
Diorama bases can be included in the build aslong as it is related to the Harrier.
The kit must be in near untouched condition, if your unsure please free to contact me and well talk it over.
Aftermarket parts, decals and photoetch of any kind are allowed.
This is a celebration of a much loved aircraft whuch is why WhatIf's and Diorama's are included.

Re: Harrier 50th Anniversary of Service GB
I had the chance to fly in a ‘tin’ 2 seater, back in the day when a mate of mine was Boss of the OCU. What struck me was the similarity, inside, to the Hawk although when I was trying to fly it like a Hawk - it wouldn’t! Mind you, when all said and done, the RAF Harriers were bombers not fighters.

Re: Harrier 50th Anniversary of Service GB
Timing dependant, I may be in for this (especially as my younger sister was part of the RN/RAF team that oversaw them being phased out..... ) I did have a photo she sent me of a hanger full of Harriers (and I mean FULL!) at Wittering where they awaited their fate. I'll see if I can find it
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

OK so if TeeELL is in then we can have this put on the calender.
Just to double check is everyone ok for the dates set in July?
Looking at the pics I posted that hanger looks like my front room!

Count me in too. I have plenty of Harriers in need of building.
Those dates work for me.

Re: Harrier 50th Anniversary of Service GB *On 2019 GB Calen
I'll pop my name in for this, I've a few to choose from, however my annual jet set break falls slap bang in the middle so will probably be a dnf.
