Time to dust off those old, almost forgotten relics from the deep stash. If it's a classic British kit of that Iconic RJ Mitchell design then it's all good.

This is about CBK Spits, so the Revell UK Spit II is eligible, too, inn´it?
I got one old UK boxing of this kit waiting to get started -
I do have to admit, that I only have very limited bench time right now, so can´t esteem yet,
when I´d be able to start it (some half-finished stuff having priority in my bench time)
My Frog VIII/IX is already started, and my Frog XIV can wait a little more, I think...
Waiting for the day, when wars for territory will be something to be read about in history books only.

Re: Classic Brit Spit Kit S-B
Ok. I have dug out of that carnage I call a model loft (you would be shocked if you saw pictures of the state of it up there. It looks like an explosion of kits) a box containing four complete and one almost complete Airfix old tool MKV KITS, A FROG Spitfire XIV and flying bomb. And I have the dogfight double Spitfire IX JE@J.
Going up there to source some bits I need and a sturdy razor saw.
All the best

Re: Classic Brit Spit Kit S-B
Possibly. A CBK was not just boxed/released in the UK, but the design/tooling had to originate in the UK. So a Revell kit designed & tooled in the USA later released by Revell(GB) would not be a CBK, even if it had a different decal sheet. But CBK's which appear in other boxings (think Matchbox repopped by Revell or Frogs repopped by Novo) still retain their lineage.Crashpilot wrote: This is about CBK Spits, so the Revell UK Spit II is eligible, too, inn´it?

There is a discussion on Revell if you follow this link http://www.uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=199; .
If your Spitfire has a H-6xx kit# then it is probably a CBK.
Greg & David get to rule on it ....

If it is a Revell UK kit then it's good to go.
Here's a pic of my Airfix MKV's and FROG MKXIV.
Unfortunately I don't have the decals for the MPC kit. They were missing when I bought it and I didn't find out until I got home.I was a bit annoyed because those markings were the only reason I bought it. The other four were standard Airfix boxings that I put in the box.
All the best

Re: Classic Brit Spit Kit S-B
Here's my beasty then. Frogs spitfire Mk XIV plus's a V1 flying bomb.
The last owner had already assembled the V1. And the stand is AWOL so I'll be making one. The spit will be wheels up. (Obviously can't have a spit chasing a doodlebug draggy bits dangling down like big slow you up draggy thing can we )
I'll make a start tomorrow.. I just noticed the pilots gone AWOL as well. Coward.
I hope the decals will be ok.
Cheers Howard

Re: Classic Brit Spit Kit S-B
Umm. Did spitfires ever intercept V1s from Belgium or Hong Kong? Note the two decal option's on the box.
Is it me?
Cheers Howard
Edit. Apparently they did . You learn something new every day

From Belgian bases yes. But Hong Kong nope. Not sure yet what scheme to do mine in but it probably won't be OOB.

Thank you, Greg!Gregers wrote:If it is a Revell UK kit then it's good to go.
........
I followed the thread jratz posted, so I found out that in the first issue of the kit, there was "Revell UK" stamped into it
I got an old H-611 box, but someone must have put some more recent plastic into it:
the sink marks, the flash, and the light grey plastic are a giveaway
...the "GB Ltd" was erased from the tooling, just as described in the thread jratz gave me.
You can still see a hint of the "GB Ltd" in the next pic:
So, I´ll stick with this kit now, as it was obviously tooled in the UK.
...at least, I get a "gull wing effect" with this kit

Re: Classic Brit Spit Kit S-B
Well. The MKXIV I have was made in Russia even if it was originally a FROG mold. Yours is a US mold but produced in the UK. I see no need to differentiate between the two.

Re: Classic Brit Spit Kit S-B
This is my first build, the venerable Airfix JE@J Spitfire IX in it's last outing on sale, it did not come with a stand, the pilot had been retooled and the decal sheet was a new and accurate sheet which will not be used here but will be applied to an AZ mark IX kit later. I have robbed another period bagged kit of it's pilot and stand for this build.
I will not be following the later instructions, instead I will use these more appropriate ones shown along with the correct (wrong)decals transfers taken from my decal stash.
David.

Re: Classic Brit Spit Kit S-B
The plastic in your copy of the JE-J looks good - in mine, there were so many sink marks, and warping in the wings, too,
that I chose to butcher it for spares, like canopy, radiators, pilot, and I kept the wheel wells:
...I´ll use them, to close the open wells on my Frog VIII/IX, I tried ´em on, they are a good fit!
This month is fully planned out, I can´t start on my Spittie yet

Re: Classic Brit Spit Kit S-B
I shall begin this model by painting the pilot and cockpit area using colours similar to (from memory) to those Airfix colours I would have used back then, cementing these parts to one side of the fuselage and then cement the two halves together to take the build almost up to step five in stage one of the instruction sheet, the propeller will not be attached at this point as I do not now allow my propellers to spin.
