Kev's Minicraft Titanic - 1/350 Centenary Edition

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

hopefully splash...tbh I dont mind having to solve the odd problem when model building as its a part of the hobby I just wasn't expecting to have to break out the files quite so soon and if this deck wont go in level the whole thing is stuffed
I stared a century thinking this will never change
As I hesitated, time rushed onwards without me
Too scared to break the spell, too small to take a fall
But the absolute luck is, love is in our hearts!

Fingers crossed that it works out OK.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

I can't help with the deck assembly, but can suggest that not all ports are uncovered at the same time (people are out of their cabin, in bed early, etc) so maybe the top row, masked by the deck wouldn't seem so odd if other ports were also "covered" randomly about the hull.

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

following further investigation on my 'go to' site for building of this kit (Art Braunschweiger's 1/350 Titanic) I have found out that the blocking of portholes is a design problem and Art got round this by selective removal of portions of the edge of the deck which allows for some light penetration whilst keeping others blocked...if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me.

Anyway today I touched up some minor bits of paintwork on the hull and have given it a coating of pledge multi surface polish to protect the paint job from grubby fingers and even tho I say so myself its looking so nice I may not matt it back down at the end

well over £100 extra has been spent on this kit over and above the original £50 purchase price what with pe, pe tools electrical stuff etc
Now I'm thinking I may as well push the boat out...pardon the pun and go for a wood deck also considering getting brass masts too

Nah, you just need to invest in some decent night vision Binoculars, just think, if the original crew had those...
It's only pain, work through it.

then people probably wouldn't be building Titanic models at all ;-)

This project is still on the back burner. I'm still currently researching the use of photo-etch (scary looking stuff). I've also purchased a set of digital deckplans which look brilliant and full of info. I may eventually scratch build some internal features like seats tables etc in time. who knows one day I may actually get this one done

change of plan re: the internal furniture / Bridge equipment I'm currently looking into getting them 3d printed...most examples I've seen are either at 200 or 400 scale. Did find a 1/350 reciprocating engine tho...shame I don't need that but will get it printed anyway along with 5 boilers
One never knows...

well it seems its been a year since I was online, how time flies and I decided to take a look at this again as no other progress has been made. Last week I put in a false bottom put in, a single line of led strip onto said false bottom dug out a very old soldering Iron (something else I've never tried) and proceeded to solder wiring connections and hey ho I have Lights. Unfortunately I also accidentally touched the hull as I'm a bit cack handed with the iron and promptly put a hole in the hull looks nasty but I can soon fill that.
Still debating on the deck as to painting it or wooden deck and as it seems to me the only one really suitable for this particular kit is the scaledecks version and that is really expensive at $99 I'm leaning more to just a plain painted deck.
Further updates will be forthcoming as and when there's something to report

Currently trying to source single strand optical fibres in various sizes from 0.25mm thru to 5.0mm which I intend fitting into the portholes rather than just plain holes.
Last place I tried only sells them on reels of 6000m...
If anyone knows of somewhere in UK I'd be grateful
