1/72 classic Hurricane kit S-B? *** Complete & Archived ***

Post by lancfan »

I have enjoyed the spitfire SB so much that I would like to suggest a similar build for the Hawker Hurricane.
So far I have gathered together the Bagged Airfix mk IV and Frog mk2C, the Keilkraft mk. IIc and the Collector's Choice boxing of the original Revell Hurricane Mk 1. I have not yet found the Matchbox kit but I am sure one will turn up, I do however have enough kits to begin the build.
As we found in the Spitfire SB the second generation kits may also have a place in this SB- any suggestions ?

I'd be interested, but I only have the second Gen Hurri kits, Hobby Boss, Airfix and AZ model in the stash.

Somewhere in the loft I have a Frog Hurricane MKII. I will be in with the Sea Hurricane option.

All the best

I could be interested as I have a soft spot for the Hurricane. One of ‘my’ other Squadrons flew the Hurricane so, if I can find a classic Mk1 I will join. Those of you with such items in your collection - which ‘classic’ kit manufacturer produced the best looking Mk1?

I guess, when you take CBKs in account, that was airfix MkI issued for the first time in 1978?

IMO the most accurate mk.1 of the classics was the Airfix Hurricane mk.1, available as 02067-9 from 1979 to 1982, reissued as 02067 from 1986 to 1988, issued by Heller (France) as kit number 79832, returning to Airfix as 02067 from 2005 to 2007 and finally issued as A02082 in 2008 to 2012. It also appeared in the "aircraft of the aces" series and a few gift sets.

Since posting my question, I have been searching. Your advice guys is much appreciated! I have found a 02082 boxing, so I am in potentially.

Likewise, the Hurricane is my favorite, although I'm partial to fabric wings & Watts props for some quirky reason.

I have 3 of the 2067/2082 versions. I have 4 of the 2042 kit which I understand is the worst, so I'm not planning to bother. I do have one of the 2096 IIC kits which I think is ex-Heller, but I have to research it.

SO, yes, I could toddle along with you all ....

I have the Heller. The box number is 152. Would that be a 'classic'?

The Heller Hurricane IIc 152 was released in 1977 so that makes it a classic, it would later be released under the Humbrol label and would be included in the Airfix 50th Anniversary BBMF and BBMF fighter collection sets.

Went stash diving. One of my 2082 is only parts, so that leaves me with two of the 2067/2082 boxing.

The 2096 kit is a the BoB 50th boxing. It is a IIC but the first step is to cut off the cannon and it then becomes a Mk,I in BBNF markings of 303 Polish. I find it interesting that the manufacturers markings have been ground off the fuselage half so I'm not sure of the provenance. I don't know if this is eligible.

I also found a Daily Mail kit, which is Revell 04110 - but that is purely Revell(GE) and thus not eligibl - don't like it anyway, tiny raised rivets, etc.

What about Matchbox PK-11 ? I've only got the one left.

I see from David & David that my 2096 BBMF kit may be a Heller re-pop. There are markings on the sprue that suggest it was kit "269"?

But are we doing "Classic" Hurricanes or "Classic British Kit" Hurricanes ?

If the former, then I could add my 2096 kit; still not going to do the Revell(GE) kit for reasons stated before..

Although we had plenty of UK Spitfire kits for the Spitfire SB the choice is narrower for the Hurricane so I would be more inclined to say "Classic Hurricanes" this would include the classic Heller and Aoshima kits for those have them stashed.

I'm interested, but, all my 1/72 and 1/48 Hurricane kits are in my storage unit which is closed until ?
I think the only Hurricane kit I have in my flat is the Airfix 1/24 Mk.I and a 75% built 1/48 Airfix Mk.I (early kit)

That's the boxing I have. I just had a look in the box for the first time ever. I don't know what the cognoscenti think about accuracy but the moulding looks really nice with lots of detail.
