I hadn't done anything for a day or two but I've been doing some work on it this evening. I fitted some plastic card to blank off the exhaust and did a test fit of the turret.

Once I'd put a bit of weight in the nose I closed up the fuselage and added the tail and stub wings.

The canopy and skids are just dry fitted at the moment. There are one or two sink marks that need seeing to but it's looking like a Cobra at last.

This evening I've done the filling and sanding that was needed.

Image

I'll get some primer on it tomorrow and see if it needs any more filler.

After another couple of rounds of filling and sanding I've got a coat of primer on.

Image

The skids have been glued on too, they don't seem too fragile.

I'll start on the painting tomorrow.

I gave it a coat of Olive Drab this evening, it makes a big difference.

I'll have to get the weapons and rotors finished next. Unfortunately the mounting for the main rotor has disappeared into the sofa so I may have to make a replacement if I can't find it.

I agree with Brews, Dig it out, you might find the part and enough change for a new kit.

Watch out for the sofa monster they have teeth like metal springs and do bite when cornered.

Don't forget to add the scale 18 inch white stripe to the top of the main rotor blades. They were at mid range. You can get away with one blade or both. Made for good ID from above. One blade gave a weird corkscrew visual effect.

I am giving this one two thumbs up. Good luck finding the part.

I got a couple of coats of Klear and the decals (all six if them! ) on this morning and this evening I did most of the painting on the rotors. There were decals for the tail rotor stripes, yellow rotor tips and white rotor patches but I decided to paint them as in the past I've had a job getting similar decals to stay on.

I'll be working on the weapons tomorrow, they just need the seams rubbing down and painting.

Today I painted the canopy framing and the weapons and fitted the tail rotor.

Image

I tried to find the rotor mount but it seems the only way I can get to it is take the end off the sofa or develop quadruple jointed hands so I'll be scratching a replacement. Luckily its a straightforward shape so it shouldn't be too difficult.

That's a tough break but you are right in making a replacement.
