This is looking great guys - just the kind of eclectic FAA mix I'd hoped for.

What is the general consensus on the CA Gannett? As challenging as their Battle I or Defiant? Or is it more refined?

I have built several CA models - Anson, Defiant TT, Walrus - and they remain among my favorites ever.
I have started and failed at a couple of their jets - Venom or Vampire.
I have a number of others yet to be built to include a 2nd try at those two jets.

I am looking forward to the Gannet, my 1st try at that kit.
I have found that if I do my job and build the model, everything will be fine. I'll share the guilt on the 2 jets, I hear they are rough, but I have a bad attitude about jets.

I really miss CA, I had a number of others that I donated to shows and a few of them I wish I had saved, but I'm not looking back.

I've built 5 or 6 CA kits, and have about 12 or so in the stash, though not the Gannet. They are short-run kits, early Czech mouldings, and all that goes with that. Not easy by any means, but not unbuildable.

For those thinking of joining this group build but have nothing suitable in the stash, there are plenty of FAA subjects in the midweek auction on the Veteranus page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2225050 ... ?ref=share

The auction finishes at 8pm tomorrow, Wednesday 14th October.

I have to admit to pre-fondling my CA Gannet, looking carefully at the wing-fold and bomb-bay conversion instructions, trying to develop a plan.

After further study of te Gannet instructions, I have ordered some Liquid Gravity.
I usually build tail-sitters, on purpose.

You'll need a lot.
A friend started building one of these a couple of years back. He lost patience with it as he could not get enough weight in the nose. I think he's still not finished it. Last I heard he was going to get a carrier-deck section and glue the Gannet down to it.
Perhaps if you also, if you can, replace flat things like the cockpit floor with thick sheet brass, a brass or white-metal pilot seat, that sort of thing.

The aftermarket bombbay & ordnance may help also, as well as the folded wings to pull some of the weight closer to the CG. I intend to first fill with SS BBs, then flow in the LG. Glue is always an option.

If it needs that much weight, will the nose U/C be strong enough?
It's only pain, work through it.
