Nice, I think Japanese aircraft are under represented. Not sure why as they had some awesome aircraft. Maybe its because the lack of variety in paint schemes. They are usually pretty bland to look at. No nose art, no unique camo schemes...

You are obviously speaking of historical Japanese subjects. These days no-one does color better.Dirkpitt289 wrote:Nice, I think Japanese aircraft are under represented. I suspect it is more a matter of accessibility and interest in the subject matter. Or perhaps it's a matter of level of exposure and when that exposure first occurred. I became interested first in the 70s Watching first Tora, Tora, Tora and then later the tv series Baa, Baa Blacksheep. I then found and purchased the fairly rare 72nd Revell Ki-45 Nick. What a great kit!
Which brings up heraldry. While I agree with you that IJN subjects are pretty staid, that's not the case so much the case with IJAF subjects. These often had very interesting, even stylish unit markings. I'd suggest a gander through Nick Millman's Aviation of Japan blog for interesting discussion and illustration.
I'm away for a few days. My wife is now having medical issues. Hopefully, I'll be back at the bench soon. 2020 has really not been a pleasant experience.
Really nothing pithy to say.

All doing much better now.
Been at the bench this morning.
I think the figures have painted up nicely and should add much to the models.
I also found this morning in the stash. Sweet's sweet little type 52. It's a nice kit and should be an interesting stablemate for when I do Tamiya's 32nd Type 52.
I now I'm off to Kenzie's agility training class. She really enjoys this. Or maybe she really enjoys the reward treats. Back to the bench this evening.

Those are great looking figures, John, I'm hard pressed to get them looking that good in 1/35th let alone 1/72nd!

Thank you, Nigel, Shaun. The seated figure really fills the cockpit opening and I won't have to fiddle with belts.
I've started masking the canopy parts. I maybe painting this one tomorrow.

Wow! the figure really adds a lot of personality to the model.
It reminded me of this really fun blog, where he made an Akagi diroama using those same figures (among many others)

Also, I've decided, I'm going to repaint (at least partially) my zero. The weathering got out of hand, and was done to hide a painting mistake. Never a good idea.

The figure looks good installed in the cockpit, John and I look forward to seeing the paint go on. I've tried to cover painting errors with weathering on armour models, Ralph (as of yet I'm too scared to weather aircraft!) and with varying degrees of success. One of the problems with aircraft is that it's not so easy to justify throwing some filler "mud" onto the airframe to cover the painting bloopers!

Thanks for the link, Ralph. I poked around a bit in this blog to find a link to Arawashi. I used to visit this place often and then somehow forgot about it. So I used about 3 hours of bench time catching up. He had some interesting stuff on various wrecks organized by battles/islands including bits on the Tora button of which this Type 21 was a part. Quite the run on sentence, eh?Softscience wrote:Wow! the figure really adds a lot of personality to the model.

So no further work to show, but the battery is recharged.

Sorry about the delay, guys. My 90 yr old mother has had a stroke. I'm attending to family stuff in Vegas the next couple of days.
